Do not drive 45 on 347 when there is no construction. I attempted it today and was nearly killed. Twice. First up was an idiot in a white Jetta. Tailgating me, with a gray Civic tailgating her. Civic guns it into the left lane, and not 1 second later, so does the Jetta. But instead of actually getting into the other lane, she straddles both lanes, realizing that she's about to get rammed by the Civic. Seeing the shoulder was clear I moved over onto it, narrowly avoiding a crash. Second up was a truck whose driver was on his cellphone. He waited until the very last second and then, again, did not completely exit the lane while passing.

Beyond this, I was nearly clipped at least eight times by tailgaters gunning it into the left lane. Where was the police in all this? Oh right, patrolling the northbound lanes to catch some people for double fines, even though there was no actual work being performed. Really good way to show they mean 45.

Did someone hijack Jasons account or are you trying to have it both ways? "I can speed when I want but when others speed I can't take the heat. Boo hoo, my poor Pontiac"

I didn't say that. They can speed all they want. Just get the heck out of my lane if you're going to pass me!

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

Read again Sinbad. I'm angry at people who almost ran me off the road, not "speeders". I'm sorry, I just can't muster up artificial anger at people who travel a safe speed. There is no convincing argument for why that should be 45 all the time.

Yes, I saw it and drove 45 the entire length. And was nearly killed. Twice. The only reason there wasn't a major backup yesterday, is because I knew it was safe to move onto the shoulder and avoid those two.

I've said it a thousand times: Great disparities in speed are very dangerous. Since most people are safely traveling at 65-75, I am the one causing the danger. Even though I wouldn't get a ticket in an accident, reality is that the one going 45 is deviating from the norm. Would you feel comfortable driving 65 in a 65 and having almost everyone going by at 95? I thought not.

So Sinbad, you never said what speed you go.

The way I read the post, is that Jason is upset by the dangerous passing/lane changing methods of these drivers. He relates that in both instances, vehicles straddled lanes and were not at safe distance. I see his frustration with speed disparity, careless lane change, and lack of patrolling/ticketing.

It was not a "I get to speed but you don't " post at all.

Some people need to brush up on comprehension skills. Maybe Miss Teen SC could hold a tutoring session! (j/k, by the way!)
Give the guy some slack! If any ladies here posted about near miss accidents, or almost collisions/reckless driving, there would be understanding oozing from the reply box. Sheesh!

Drove 75 this morning with the flow of traffic into town. (Speed limit is 65, despite the 65 signs being covered. I can explain how that works, just ask.) No near misses and no unsafe behavior observed. And not one person going 45.

ha ha ha h a.. Because it's posted at 45...duh!!!

Sorry you almost got ran over. How about if everyone gets a Mad Max type car and we can treat the 347 like the Movie..... Run everyone off the road in your way...

It just sucks that people drive so crazy... (I know I get crazy too once in a while...So I suck too.. so there!.)

I drive in the right lane only for 89% of the time ( avoid the graded stuff as if it has nails in it).. so I must be doing 45-50......

What ever the flow of traffic is.

(ok.. here comes Jason.)

We do need some type of clarification on these posted speed limits. Is it 45 all the time or just when workers are present. I usually go about 55 just to be safe.

From what I understood from a previous Jason's Rules of the Road 101, the AZ statutes state yellow signs are not an enforceable sign, more cautionary or warning. the black and whites are the ticketable signs. I thought, though that Mr. AZ Trooper has quite a bit of latitude when issuing tickets regarding Reasonable and Prudent speeds. (translation: If he thinks you were speeding, then you were! Bam! Ticket issued!)

Is that right, Professor Jason???

Sorry Beth, that is incorrect. Jason thinks that the reasonable and prudent speed law is for him to drive faster than the speed limit if he deems it safe. Right Jason. Sure wish I could drag that stuff back from the old web page. Now he'll sing a different tune.....

The sign part is correct bizybeth. Except, the white sign says 45MPH just after Riggs and does not change (white signs) all the way to Copa (they even covered the 55 MPH sign after the wash). The 45 MPH is also now in effect all the way from Copa past Rinker going north.

Was that while they were working? I drive during non-construction periods (Daylight..LOL) and don't see the workers now.
