Published construction hours for southbound were 4AM to 1PM. I have seen no publication otherwise. I worked from home on Wednesday, so that has no bearing. Since you missed the 65 sign, perhaps you need your vision checked?

If that is the case, why the 45 in one direction and 65 in the other. Makes no sense.

Where did you get the information that work is only being done at night?

No work on 347 South. Got to Copa at 1300. Paving trucks didn't move from the side of Northbound all day. 45MPH sign still the only sign present. Been the same for 3 days now. Don't know where i heard nights only.

The speed limit there is 45MPH Jason. Isn't 25MPH over the speed limit a bit excessive?

I have been reading this forum since it started and don't like to get involved in many of the dabates. This time i wanted to add a few words. I am sorry if they offend anyone.

On some days I like to drive 80 and others I like to drive 65. where it is REASONABLE and PRUDENT I will opt for the faster speed. most times it isn't, but SOMEtimes it is.

please look up ARS 28-701A. no where is the word "speeding" mentioned. there is only mention of a speed that is greater than reasonable and prudent.

is 85 excessive? Hell yes!!! are there times where i look down and say "holy crap I'm flying!" yes. but i slow it down to a REASONABLE and PRUDENT speed. most of the time that is 70-75.

most officers worth their salt will not write you for anything under 10-11 over. i know this, both as an officer, and as someone who drove by DPS at about 70-72 (in the milled lane, past the yellow 45mph sign). guess who got pulled over??? the person doing 63 in front of DPS. why? probably becuse the person who thought they were patronizing the cop by going just at or below the speed limit did not realize that they were impeeding the flow of traffic.

Now...as for the 45mph "speed limit" on the 347...please tell me where you insipient lawyers are finding the 45mph speed limit signs. the yellow ones????? those are not speed limit signs. they are recomendations. they wish for you to do that limit given the road conditions, but they are in no way speed limit signs.

my advice.....just get home. don't worry about what the other idiots are doing (myself included sometimes)...and if you are, then place your hands at 10 and 2, get off the phone, turn off the radio, don't look for the wild horses, and do what you are supposed to do in a 2000-4000 pounds piece of metal...be careful. Accidents will happen. why?, because they are just that...accidents. do what you are supposed to do and you will be rich when the idiots hit you, or slam on their brakes in front of you (which is also a traffic violation). And for the love of god, please watch out for the construction worker who holds that "slow" sign out into our lane of traffic...my goodness, HE is gonna kill someone

And please don't bash the cops...we are trying to make EVERYONE happy, not just the ones who drive 65 in a 65.

The whole thing is a crock. According to Alan, they've got one direction going 45 and the other doing 65. Yet, they're both one lane paved and one lane milled. Make sense? No, didn't think so. Plus conditions are no different than last week when it was 65. Explain that one.

prime construction time is when I am going to work, JASON @ midnight 12am, and the speed is actuall like 20 with the cops everywhere, and you have to drive on the shoulder and workers everywhere and men with SLOW YOUR BUT down signs.....and they work in like three different sections and it is almost one lane the whole way out.

at 12 pm they are at home sleeping!

Let's see if every car in Jason's thinking were driving in a safe manor then when the lead car knee jerk reaction all of the cars following would have plenty of time to stop without hitting the car in front of them but no if you leave that much of a gap between cars you would be late getting to where ever you are going. Like I said in an other post morons like Jason justifying their actions.

Tailgating, yes, that is unsafe. But if the Trailblazer had not made such an unsafe move, there wouldn't have been an issue. The fault lies with both sets of cars.

So, the reason that the speed limit is set at 45MPH from Riggs to the Copa south, and from Copa to Casa Blanca north is that the pavement is not at 3 levels. Left=milled, Right=paved, Shoulder=paved with 2 layers. Does it really need to be that low of a Speed Limit? No. Should it be? Yes, because hopefully the few drivers that slow down will block the idiots that are driving 75-80MPH. I watched a black BMW this weekend doing about ~90MPH almost fly across the bridge. I just hope that moron screwed his undercarriage up royally (and yes, I saw some sparks).

The folks that are driving like that when there is construction in the area should go STRAIGHT TO JAIL!!!

Oh, and Jason, did I mention that you were wrong? Oh, I did. Never mind.

On the way to work this morning, traffic was flowing at a smooth 70-75. No one was even close to causing an accident. All lane changes were safe, no one was going insanely fast. 45 is unreasonable.

And again, there was no construction. Sorry, you're not going to convince me that the speed limit needs to be reduced when there is no actual work being performed. Unless something drastically changes to the road conditions, that is.

Northbound is still 65. I turned out of RED this morning, and there were no 45 MPH signs on 347 between Maricopa and Phoenix (northbound), making the speed limit the default 65 MPH.

aren't those 45 mph signs just a suggested speed? Like when you're going around a big curve or something they have a posted suggested speed - because that is deemed the reasonable SAFE speed to travel in that particular area? I think I've seen the signs but can't recall really. It might feel unreasonable for some to travel that slow on the milled surface but for others it's totally reasonable and makes them feel safe. What's okay for one isn't always okay for others...

There are two different ones. There are square orange ones attached to the construction signs and then there are square white ones that say "Speed Limit". The ones attached to construction signs are suggestions. The others are actual speed limit signs, but they've been lazy. They're putting ones up that say "Fines Doubled", even when there is no construction, which suggests that someone just forgot to (or was ordered not to, to save time) take them down when they're done working for the day.

Alan, you have to understand where I'm coming from. Most of last year the street near where I worked was under construction and everyone basically had to think for themselves what a safe speed was. You'd go through one week where there was a lane closure and the remaining lane was shifted onto the center turn lane, construction work was being done in the very next lane, but the speed limit was 45. Then the next week there would only be work done in the center of the intersection, no lane closures and a speed limit of 25 on one road and 45 on the other. And it would stay that way, even after they were gone for the day and the intersection was restored to 100% normal operation.

I'm used to construction workers not picking up their signs when they're done. Most traffic flows at a smooth and safe speed and there are virtually no accidents. It is a tough sell to say that 65-75 is not safe, when there is no construction being done.

Who's the say for CERTAIN though that those signs are just a result of laziness? You don't know that for sure. So, if you are fine with not obeying the sign, whether workers are present or not, then it's your ticket.
