I was driving to Scottsdale during AM rush hour on Monday and I just could not believe my eyes as to how many people disregard the laws of the HOV by riding single! I guess these characters think they are above the law. This is one thing you do not want to get caught doing in Pittsburgh, PA the POPO will stick it to you. They take that stuff seriously. Do these individuals who break the laws by doing this think they are special? They are special all right they are profoundly stupid!

Were you able to see clearly into the backseats to tell if there were children in them?

Funny you would ask, I did just that out of noticing the first person alone driving in the HOV. After seeing several more lone rangers I really started looking for that and saw a few with small children due to how big and bulky carseats and boosters are these days! Several yrs back a guy was caught driving in an HOV lane in Pittsburgh and he had an actual mannequin from Kohls or somewhere in the front seat and got busted!

Love it. We all know that is called a 'stupid ticket'.
I did work for a lawyer in the Bay Area a while back that used to drive in the HOV lane all the time. He considered the ticket as a 'cost of business'. Niiice.

I heard a comedian talk about driving with an inflatable 'love doll' in the front seat. Seems that an officer caught on because she always looked so 'surprised' every morning when they passed him. LOLOL

I believe if you have an alternative fuel vehical or a hybrid and have the "cloud" license plate, you can legally ride in the HOV lane any time, as well.

even if i have my children in the car with me, i don't use the HOV lane. I think that it defeats the purpose of carpooling privledges of driving in that lane. my children can't drive themselves anywhere, so by my driving them around, we aren't saving pollution. if it were my husband in the backseat, then i'd drive in the HOV lane.

and as a pregnant woman, i don't consider my unborn baby to count toward my passenger count either.

I am amazed at all the 2+ passenger in the cars that are not driving in the HOV lane. If more would move over there then traffic would flow a little bit faster. I watched one 2+ car dart and dodge around all the other cars in the regular lanes trying to get ahead, when the HOV lane was open and moving freely. Funny, traffic was only crawling and everytime he changed lanes that lane would stop and take a while to catch up.

I consider the HOV lane as the Homeless Occupied Vehicle lane. Here's how it works. Stop in Chandler and pick up a bum. You can usually find one at the 202 freeway entrance panhandling. Ask if him if he wants to go to Phoenix. They usually need the ride, and it gets you a free ticket to the HOV lane. Do the same thing on the way home, and it will cut 45 minutes off your daily commute.
