Alert | | So I've stayed quiet for awhile, just sitting back reading and enjoying (??) and I've noticed a common comment made by many. It seems that so many of us are trying to blame 'bad drivers, high speeds, not paying attention' to the unfortunate accidents that shut down the 347. Well, here's a question... How many of YOU speed, don't pay attention when driving (even if just to call someone 'real quick'), and are just jerks to people on the road? We're all at fault for this, so instead of blaming everyone else, why not take responsibility for your own actions and driving blunders and change it. I always try to drive safely because I have three children, when I'm alone though, I speed. Really fast. So, my vow to make the 347 safer is to not speed, so please don't come up behind me like you're in some sort of life and death emergency to get to Target and ride my *@# until I move. Just consider that something MAY happen and you could seriously injure yourself and others. Thanks!

Alert | | I just got my license 2 weeks ago. I am trying REALLY hard to be a safe and responsible driver, especially with my child in the car. I drove to CG last Friday with just me and my girl for the first time. I stayed at about 55 in the 45 and was PASSED by EVERYONE!! I was getting frutrated and then we all caught up to each other. I do not understand the urgency to get somewhere 2 seconds earlier!!!!!!!! | | Senior Member Posts: 3899 Joined: Jan 2006

Alert | | I know people get frustrated at me too because I go the speed limit, but I really don't care. It makes me mad though when they come zooming up on me and expect me to move out of their way when I'm in the granny lane! Slow down folks! Target doesn't close until 10. How'd you like CG Jodi? I went there last week, will probably never go to chandler again - has a bit to do with the better drive and the macayo's lol.

Alert | Jodi - you will adapt as you become more confident and comfortable driving.
Leefamily - do you feel better by forcing your set of rules on others? You do realize you can get a ticket for going too slow and impeding traffic? You are more a hazard than the speeders. Traveling with the flow of traffic is a safer alternative than driving at the speed limit and not one MPH more. I do agree those who weave in and out to move that extra car length are a hazard. If the pack, herd - whatever of cars all move along at approximately the same rate of speed without repeated lane changes, - even if that rate of speed is 5-10 MPH greater than the posted limit - what is the inherent danger? Now if that group of cars suddenly come up on a car doing exactly the speed limit and all are forced to either slam on their brakes or swerve around the slow car... guess who is at greatest risk???

Alert | | No, I go the speed limit, not under. Most of the time maybe 5 mph over, but I stay in the slow lane, usually. I do that because I have a family and I am concerned with things like having a blow out at a high rate of speed, loosing control of my vehicle because of the milling, someone in front of me slamming on their brakes. I have a better chance of controlling my vehicle at the speed limit than when I am driving 85, we all do! Besides, you should be a good enough driver by now to tell that someone is going slower than you...

Alert | | Fritzy....leefamily isnt doing anything wrong. It is called a speed limit for a reason.....not a speed minimum. If she was doing 40 in a 65..ok, that is impeding the flow of traffic. But doing the speed limit for safety and the law says so? Even 5-10 mph over is a ticket if PD wants to give it to you. I got a ticket for 1 over the limit in glendale...granted the officer was a big butt, but the law is the law.

I got my first speeding ticket last year for going 50 in a 25 - CONSTRUCTION ZONE. He should've taken me to jail, but just gave me a HUGE ticket. That kind of slowed me down, that and the day of being traffic school while I had morning sickness... never want to do that again!

Alert | Code 3 Exactly.
The danger isn't someone OBEYING the speed limit. The danger is someone DISOBEYING the speed limit. It's convenient to twist the fault on those FOR obeying the law, but it doesn't work that way.
Sure, we are taught to follow the flow of traffic, but we are also taught to obey the laws. There are reasons for the speed limit. The likelihood of anything happening AND the likelihood of not being able to react in time increases as the speed increases.
So the danger lies in the majority(??) of drivers that DISOBEY the speed limit laws. | | You may remember this from the original 85239: Proverbs 22:7 The rich ruleth over the poor and the borrower is servant to the lender.

The danger lies with the idiots driving too slow in the left lane...because as soon as I pass him/her in the right lane I introduce them to my bumper<img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/w00t.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='w00t' align='absmiddle'> Its sad that I have to do this but my road rage meter is at an all time high so watch out (left lane Sunday drivers) and BUCKLE up :{

The danger lies in the majority, if and only if, the actual speed is unsafe. I'm sorry, but you're going to have a very hard time convincing me that under most conditions, 75 is not safe. As hard as it is to accept, sometimes speed limits are not there for your safety.
