Alert | Surprisingly going from milled surface to smooth surface is what hurts your tires, staying in the milled lane isn't bad on them. Not as bad as you would think!!

Alert | Completely agree w/ Jason. Driving on a milled surface isn't going to impact the life of my tires significantly enough for me to drive behind someone going 60mph, or someone coasting along in the passing lane just because they can. If it wasn't safe to drive on, they'd have it blocked off.

Alert | | I drive in the milled lane as there is less traffic, doesn't hurt my tires and I go a constant speed. :-)

Alert | This is the most ridiculous thread on 85239. You might as well write "Why don't we just have one lane in and one lane out."
We drive in the milled lane because the volume of traffic requires two lanes. If we all drove in one lane, our commute times would double. DOH!

Alert | Seems to me traffic is flowing better now that the left lanes are rough and the right lanes are smooth. Most people only drive in the left (milled) lane when they want to pass! You know when the road is finished there will be slow pokes in the left lane again.
Maybe they should leave the left lane rough!

Yes. I get tired of people who:
- Hit the brakes randomly - Slam on the brakes - Brake when coasting would work - Yo-yo between speeds - Ride the brakes - Keep unnecessarily large gaps, usually while doing one or more of the above - Go below the speed limit (considering the speed limit is too low already) - Block other people in - Slow down every time they come up on a car and then take off when they get past
Among other things, these are the most irritating.</div>

Alert | I avoid the milled lane like it's dog crap in grass fields.
I took Casa Blanca either way until they finished on lane. My car is my dream car and I will try my best not to F it up. The vibrations are very hard on it. I think people are drinving in the Milled lane cause they enjoy going 75-80 no matter what they are driving!!!

Alert | Sinbad is a Queen? (Shocked look on my face!) Well Madonna does live in England.....
Don't drive in the milled lane! Take it from a reformed Milled Lane Commuter -
Milled lane= 3 tires replaced/repaired in one month....

Alert | | All this milled lane talk is a farce. They will not destroy your tires unless you buy the cheepest out there. Any decently made tire will handle this just make sure you have full air in your tires and you aren't zigzagging between the milled and paved lane.

Alert | how about this: if driving (in any lane, on any road) scares you; take the bus. if operating a motor vehicle scares you IN ANY WAY, maybe you shouldn't do so.
(i was going to edit this post cuz i thought it might be too abrasive, but then i re-read it, and changed my mind)

Wow... you can arrgue that one with the guy from Discount tires I guess. As I think I would take his years of experience with this kind of thing over your reading my three sentences and knowing exactly what happened.
Bolt - road schrapnle from countless trucks that have crap thrown in the back of them - all end up on the road after driving on the oh so smooth surface of the 347.
Screw -same thing, but through part of the sidewall and was not repairable.
Tire seperated - tire defect or could be contibuted to the driving surface as I was told it could have been a little of both.

Alert | | It's funny to see the people freaked out about driving on ALL milled lanes on the I-17. My boss was upset by it. He was afraid of the two miles it takes him on the milled lane. I laughed and told him the entire 347 has one lane milled. It's not a big deal.

Discount tire, would this be the one on Chandler Blvd? They're the ones that put the wrong wheels on my car and refused to take them back. New or relatively new passenger tires made recently will not have a tread separation on that surface, if properly maintained. If the surface was causing it, you would see a huge outcry here and you'd see tons of shredded tires out on 347. Your tires should have been replaced under warranty, as tread separations are never normal when the tire is under warranty.
I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but you're trying to blame the milled surface for a bolt and screw through the tire? | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | You've lost three tires so far, so you have one original remaining, right? Take a look at it, what does the sidewall look like? Are there a lot of little tiny cracks running all along it? How about the tread blocks, do they have any chunks out of them, do the edges look worn down and smooth? | | Joined: Jul 2005
