I live in Cobblestone, but I take my daughter to school over in RED each day. Now, when I leave CF, there are 3 "lanes" for me to choose from: turn left, go straight or turn right. I go in the middle to go straight.
But when I leave RED, there are really only two lanes: Left or Right.

Which one am I supposed to be in to go straight across to CF? I've been honked at in both lanes.

Thanks

This is Maricopa. You are going to get honked at no matter what you do.

Actually, there are NO marked lanes leaving RED but there is room for two lanes so do what you think is the safest for straight ahead. Legally you could stay in the middle of the road but then everyone would honk at you.
Jason should be consulted.

I would say the left lane. You probably won't get as many honks as the right lane since the left lane can't move until the light is green whereas people can make a right on the 347 (depending on traffic) even if the light is red.

Thats what I thought. I did the right lane the first day, and got honked at like crazy. So I figured, okay, they can still turn right if our light is red. So I moved over to the left lane for the 2nd day, and I still got honked at for not moving (well, the person makiing the left out of CF just went when her light turned green, and I didn't want to get hit, silly me).

Thanks!

They really ought to mark it. However, I would think you'd need to be in the left lane to go straight. The reasoning is that puts you in the same class of traffic, traffic that has to wait for the light. I don't understand why anyone would honk at you in the left lane...? For a definitive answer that won't get you a ticket, call the police department.

Th more I think about it, this definitely seems to be the right answer. Regardless of the fact that it isn't striped, it is definitely programmed for two separate lanes of traffic, because if you sit in the right lane, it will not turn green unless someone else comes up. I know everyone says right on red is not required, but at some lights it is, because the light will never give you a green.

Thanks everyone. Next time someone honks, I'll pull out this printed thread and show them that they are in the wrong! hehe

When you were in the left lane, were you giving people turning NB from Cobblestone the 347 the right of way?

Should not be; thru, (non turning) traffic has the right of way over oncoming left turn traffic. There are no marked lanes so there is no "left lane", only left or right positioned traffic.
