Alert | | I left work at 51st and Baseline at 5pm. I got home at 8:40. I was told by the reservation police officer that redirected traffic on Riggs Rd back to Laveen that if anyone tried to use the dirt roads across the reservation they would be ticketed and have a hefty fine. I don't understand why in the situation like tonight that they don't allow us non indians to use the roads? Tonight was insane to get home! | | Remind me again why I left So. Calif. for this? Ok, Ok, Maricopa IS growing on me now. Where is the mall and movie theatres the builder promised me still? And my windshield gets chipped whenever I try to leave!

Alert | | Hey wakechick, I wanted to cry last night. I am sooo frustrated with this crap. I mean, I can understand the closure to avoid putting more cars on the highway, but why in the heck did stinkin DPS let me get off of the offramp, just to either get back on the 10 fwy, or turn left!!??? I was so pissed. This traffic IS just as bad as SoCal. hey on a lighter note, where is your pic takin of the wake boarding? | | "Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Alert | | I heard about the accident on the radio when I left work, plus the ADOT sign on I-10 had a message on it that said 347 was closed at Riggs, so I'm not sure why people were trying to get off on the Queen Creek exit in the first place. You deserved to have to go back over the exit or turn left for not paying attention to the warning. I went through Casa Grande and it took me about the same time it normally does taking the 347 on a normal day. I left work at 6:00p and I was home at 7:10p. For those that take I-10 to Queen Creek exit, get out of your house and learn the alternate routes for instances like this one and you won't be stuck for hours doing the same thing as everyone else. Also, there have been several threads on here stating those alternate routes...try them. I'm thankful I did, and now I take the route in the morning too so I don't have to deal with the backups at the Riggs stoplight and all the construction. For those that use 51st Ave, I feel sorry for you...nothing for an alternate route I've ever heard of outside of taking I-10, but with no warning system for accidents going that way, you're pretty much screwed I guess.

Alert | | I too saw the ADOT sign on I-10, BUT it is on the WARNER overpass. Many 'copians do not drive this way and would never see the sign. More times than not, sitting in the slow traffic takes just as long as any available alternate route which is why people still attempted to exit on Queen Creek. It took me an hour and ten minutes to get from I-10 and Elliot to exit 185/ValVista and then up 'Copa-CG hwy to Maricopa. Not bad, but I knew that the back up on the Queen Creek exit was due to the road being closed, not just slow traffic. I don't think we should "yell" at the poor people who didn't have the information from a sign they don't pass or a radio station they don't listen to...They suffered enough by having to sit in their cars for so long!

Alert | | I wasn't yelling by any means, but I guess I could see why you would think that since you think someone sitting in an air-conditioned car is suffering. It sucks, yes, but suffering? Hardly. Anyway......I'm just merely stating people should look for an alternate route. There are plenty of them listed by others in various threads. When I came up on the Queen Creek exit, I could see cops on the exit ramp and that nobody was turning onto 347, so it was obvious it was blocked, but people were still trying to exit there. Obviously, this wasn't the first time something like this has happened, and I guarantee (based on the fabulous driving skills of many heading to Copa) it won't be the last.

Alert | there should be a sign when you turn right off the I-10 TO GO SOUTH ON THE 347.

Alert | At the time I went by, there were no cops on the exit ramp. In fact, if a friend hadn't called to tell me or I hadn't seen the sign on Warner, I too would have thought "347 is backed up at Riggs...AGAIN!" and waited in line. Having air conditioning doesn't make sitting there any less miserable. There are so many daily life things that add to a situation: A crying baby in the backseat, worrying about getting home in time to pick up kids from daycare or wherever they go after school, the groceries melting in the backseat... Add those things to being frustrated for making the decision to wait for it to "clear up" - not knowing that it is closed and the people sitting there are definitely suffering. I am not saying that some of them are not at fault for their suffering, but I bet they learned from it. Who in their right mind would say "My car is air conditioned and I could use a little extra down time, so I think I will just sit here and wait until traffic clears."? Air conditioning has little to do with how the people in that situation felt.
As for having an alternative route, it is a good idea. But you also need to realize that on numerous occasions, waiting for whatever has happened to clear takes the same amount of time or less than going all the way around through Casa Blanca or Casa Grande. In yesterday's case, waiting was not a good idea and many people found out the hard way, but sometimes you never know until you try! My whole thing is that I don't think we should belittle the people that took that chance.

Alert | Having air conditioning doesn't make things less miserable? Next time you're waiting in line, turn yours off for an hour and tell me if it makes things less miserable. We obviously have different opinions of what suffering means. I think all the people last night were inconvenienced, annoyed, and pissed off, but far from suffering. Anyway, it doesn't really matter. I'm just saying, if there are those out there like me and they're impatient and don't like waiting in stop and go traffic, there are alternate routes you could take to avoid that.
Also, I didn't feel I belittled anybody. Sorry, I'm a straight forward person. If you take offense to how I come across.....deal with it. I deal with people I think are overly sensitive all the time, so they can do the same for me.
Anyway, we each believe our own opinions, no matter how wrong yours may be. LOL.

Alert | "I'm just saying, if there are those out there like me and they're impatient and don't like waiting in stop and go traffic, there are alternate routes you could take to avoid that."
But you didn't say that in your original post:
"For those that take I-10 to Queen Creek exit, get out of your house and learn the alternate routes for instances like this one and you won't be stuck for hours doing the same thing as everyone else."
Your original post sounded like you believe every person that found themselves in a situation that "sucks" doesn't know of any alternate routes. I know of a few different ways to get home...but I don't want to drive 20+ extra miles to get home EVERY day. I am sure many others feel the same way. You are implying that all of those people stuck for hours were stuck because they sit in their house all the time. Many were victims of someone else's stupidity and/or poor driving skills and had no control over being able to take an alternate route. I am sure that the first group of cars that weren't allowed to move past were wishing they had left earlier or taken a different way...But why take the long way home EVERY day just because there is a chance that an accident could occur?
I do have to say that I am glad you drive an alternate route because it is the impatient drivers that cause scary things to happen on the 347. Running a red light because the driver was too impatient to wait for the next green appears to be the reason for this accident...I hope that all of the impatient drivers take your advice because then it might be safer to drive to work every day.
