Has anyone explored another route by chance? I went to Mapquest.com this morning to see what it would entail taking the long way home via Casa Grande. But I’m wondering of another route? Don’t laugh but can we drive through Indian reservations? The reason I ask is if you take the I-10 to Casa Blanca, which also showed as Hwy 587 and go west to Murphy and make a left. This is all Gila Indian reservation. Any way, Murphy then meets up with Smith-Enke , Honeycutt and then MCG Hwy. It’s obviously a longer route but maybe it will help us not to want to drink when we get home. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'>
Any other ideas?

It's your risk. GRIC can impound your car for unauthorized travel on their land.

You can cut through the U of A off of Smith Enke and hit Casa Blanca, but we're not supposed to. I think the City needs to make a deal with the U of A and the GRIC to let us use that in emergency situations. Naturally, Saturday it was blocked off so my sneak attack failed miserably.

Never mind I figured it out. Gila river indian community.

I agree sunsfan, the should be able to make a deal in a case like this. There's got to be another way to get around other than Casa Grande, or the 347.

According to 85239 (a user on this site), that is also GRIC land and that the City has been unable to negotiate a deal with them.

Take I10 South to AZ-387/187 (Exit 185). This exit is 20 miles south of Queen Creek Rd.
Turn right onto AZ-387 and follow this for 8 miles. It will turn into AZ-93(N Pinal Ave).
Follow this until you reach AZ-238/E Cottonwood Ln. Turn right and this will be the Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy.
Follow this 20 miles until you reach Maricopa... after that... all bets are off.

Google Maps estimates from I-10/Queen Creek to Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy/347
48.9 mi – about 57 mins

This takes you a bit out of the way. A better route would be:
Take I-10 to exit 185 (Pinal Ave) head south to Val Vista Road. Turn right heading west on Val Vista until it dead ends at the Maricopa/CG Hwy. Turn right, heading west on the Mar/CG Hwy to SR347. It's much faster than going all the way in to Cottonwood Lane.

IF you do want to experiment and take Murphy Road - take it in the daytime and head north from Mar/CG Hwy. The last third of the road is unimproved (IE ROUGH) dirt. Plus there is no street sign on Casablanca. So make mental notes of the surroundings. If you travel Casablanca to I-10, follow all traffic rules and laws. DO NOT SPEED. Yes, they can confiscate your vehicle if you give them a good reason.

When you are heading north on Murphy - remember that BIG hump you go over the irrigation canal? You are now on reservation.

Thanks, now just just wonder if you are doing the speed limit if your car will be possesed? Probably depends on the mood of the officer

Yeah, that route would save you a few miles. I did the other route because it's easier to remember and it drives you past a gas station at Cottonwood/Pinal Ave for those unprepared souls.

Hilarious Dragonfly... The drive home does make me want a cocktail sometimes. I am glad I am not the only one that feels that way. I am getting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder just thinking about the drive home today.
