ANEWMAN - you're probably right. I was so exhausted last night that it didn't even register that that would more than double my insurance premium. My insurance rates are great - noone has been able to beat them for several years, so the lady I was speaking with and I were probably on different pages. I'll have to call back and clarify

I have 3, but.... one of the ones I got last week has now started to run in a line across the windscreen... yikes!

I am channeling my "inner cougar".....

I called my insurance company to find out how much the windshield replacement coverage is - it's over $500/6 months! NO WAY! I'd have to have at least 4 broken windshields a year to make it worthwhile! The rest of the cost of my coverage is great, but they know that windshields get broken quite a bit in AZ, so the rates are high. When I said no thanks and gave her the approx price I got from a windshield replacement company, she agreed that it probably wasn't in my best interest to get the coverage. She actually said she was surprised how many people paid for the coverage consider the cost for it around here.

Chances are I'll have to replace my windshield by the time the road work is done, but the less than $300 to pay cash is less than the $500+ to get the coverage.

Are you sure that wasn't your total cost of insurance including glass coverage for 6 months. That seems pretty high- my total insurance for full coverage and glass is only a little more than that. My glass coverage was like a $25 add on- if that!!

You might want to start shopping around for a new carrier.

OK, so I called back to clarify - and yep, the lady I was talking to last night and I were just not on the same wavelenght. The glass coverage part is closer to $60/6 months That makes WAY more sense! The lady I was talking with tonight and I had a good laugh over the confusion. That's what I get for asking questions while exhausted

I'm glad I said something

OK - so I was the proud recipient of 3 rock chips w/in 1/4 mile on Thursday. Being Proud was quickly overcome with another emotion that also begins with a P I called my insurance company, and they assured me that my rates wouldn't go up if I had my windshield replaced blah blah. However, it's ADOT's fault that we are all getting chipped cracked windshields/cars etc. What I want to know is who is the genius that decided to mill 3 lanes at once. Ok - back to my point. I went to ADOT's website and found this phone number: 602-712-7355 (http://www.dot.state.az.us/CCPartnerships/News/nrel1896.asp) I called and left a message, and someone called me back from 602-712-7327. On Friday, she said that she was going to send me a claim form for my windshield. I'm not sure if i'm suppose to hold my breath or not Thank goodness I have a clear bra on my car - otherwise I'd HATE to see what my paint job looks like after the roads are fixed

Why would you claim it through ADOT and make everyone pay for it? I really don't see the reason in paying for full glass insurance and then paying again through tax dollars to ADOT. You're basically paying for the replacement twice.

Went and counted them up today. On the driver's side of the windshield alone, I have at least 20 chips. At least I'll get a new windshield when this is over, thus getting rid of the sandblasted one I've got now.
