It looks like a big creepy tarantula! If I saw that thing coming up the road, I think I would run screaming! So just warn me if you do get one!

It would certainly be an attention getter!  I probably couldn't afford to buy gas for it!

Thats about the coolest automation thing I've ever seen. I had a friend working on robotic cars for the 'Grand Challenge', but his stuff was nothing like this. Wow.

Interesting reading, krzy.  I had no idea things like the Grand Challenge even took place.  We lived in Ontario, CA in the 80s, about 50 miles from Victorville.  George AFB was still there at that time.  Thanks for sharing.

I moved to AZ from Victorville. The base is still there, they just dont do much out there anymore. They have condemned most of the place because of lead. The last time I was out there they were destroying all the old housing. My parent still live in V.V. So I go back there every few months.

George Air Force Base was closed in 1992, by the same Congressional Act that closed Williams Air Force Base in Mesa.

George has been closed for a long time, I know. Although they still do use that base for other things. I think they have businesses in the old warehouse areas.

I realized what you were saying after I posted my response.  Sorry, it just took awhile for it to soak in.
