Tortosaguy is just mad, because in the 20 extra minutes it takes him to get home, we are already in the pool.

The signs might state slower traffic keep right but they do not define what slower traffic is. Also if someone is going the speed limit and cars are lining up behind him/her aren't they then also doing the speed limit making him/her traveling at the same speed as those behind him/her so then he/she would no longer be considered going slower.

Also if you read my prior post noweres in those reg's does it state you can legaly go faster than the posted speed limits. It also states (5. A special hazard exists with respect to pedestrians or other traffic or by reason of weather or highway conditions.) which means to slow down due to those hazzards which slower cars according to some are what makes the road hazzardous.

you are "slower traffic" is if the person behind you is going faster than you.. how hard is that?

Do what ever you want to do.. you go on and keep being some sick attention-whore who somehow gets off on "controlling" people behind you.. it won't change my driving habits... I'll keep right.. because it's my duty to be a driver with some common courtesy.. and quite frankly I don't have to justify my existence at the expense of others..

and TGuy.. are you serious? the last laugh? have you seen a map, lately? You STILL have 5-8 miles EAST to go before you hit I-10 to go WEST all the while you are "angling-in" towards Phx..

the last laugh? not in my case.. I live in the Villages.. even if they do punch a straight shot from Tortosa.. I'll be at Riggs before you even HIT I-10.. lol.

geewhiz is correct.  There is nothing in A.R.S. title 28, that allows a person to travel above the posted speed limit; however, legislation was passed recognizing [the majority of] traffic often travels above the posted speed limit (28-721.D [sorry, I didn't have the date handy]) and there was a need to keep traffic flowing smoothly.  Think about this: four people are traveling at 70 MPH, they approach a person (in the left [#1] lane) who is traveling 65 MPH.  The first 70 MPH car to reach the 65 MPH car has to slow, but ends up slowing to a speed less than 65 MPH...let's say 60 MPH (just to make the math easy.)  The second 70 MPH car now has to slow, but it slows to 55 MPH.  The thrid 70 MPH car the slows to 50 MPH, etc.,etc.,etc.  The whip always cracks at the end.  As I previously posted, it is not often enforced, because officers would have to tell people to keep from breaking one law, they have to break another...or drive on the right side of the roadway.  It is considered dangerous to pass on the right (especially for motorcycles) because people are more apt to go right to exit, turn, car trouble, etc.  Having said that, it is very important for people to understand: the faster you go, to more violent the collision will be.  I personally think it is proper etiquette to drive in the right lane unless passing.  I equate it with a person so lazy, they put their shopping cart wherever they please, taking up parking spots, allowing carts to roll into vehicles, etc., rather than putting it into the "cart parking."  If another person wants to drive faster than you, why not let them?  Let the police stop them if they see fit; it is not a civilian's job to enforce traffic laws.  We live in an "Entitlement Society," too many people are self-absorbed and don't look at/don't care about the "big picture."  Always looking out for themselves, not caring about the effects they have on other people.  Remember:  Baby-boomers could be told what to do and got it done.  Gen-X'ers once shown how to do it, are "get it done" people; Generation Y'ers ask "why" (really, no pun intended) and prefer to be called the "Millenials."  - S

The signs might state slower traffic keep right but they do not define what slower traffic is. Also if someone is going the speed limit and cars are lining up behind him/her aren't they then also doing the speed limit making him/her traveling at the same speed as those behind him/her so then he/she would no longer be considered going slower.

Actually, the ARS does define what "slower traffic" means, by proxy. The MUTCD (per the ARS, the adopted manual for what traffic control devices mean) defines the sign to mean:

Section 2B.31 SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT Sign (R4-3)

Guidance:
If used, the SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT sign should be installed just beyond the beginning of a multi-lane pavement, and at selected locations where there is a tendency on the part of some road users to drive in the left lane (or lanes) below the normal speed of traffic. This sign should not be used on the approach to an interchange or through an interchange area.

So you can see, the sign is a complement and visible reminder of our already existing law that says to keep in the right lane if you are going slower than traffic. It doesn't matter that the person is artificially holding down traffic speeds, they are still going slower than normal traffic speed.

You can easily gauge what the normal speed of traffic is and note that it is not capped at the speed limit. Police need to start enforcing this law and these signs and we will have smoother commutes.

And before we get into what the "normal speed of traffic" is, anyone who doesn't know doesn't have any business driving, as it is required to determine traffic speed any time any sort of merging is done.

A solution would be to place traffic signals every two miles and if a radar detects a speeder it will turn the next light red thus slowing traffic. If someone knowingly speeds you can blame them for the delay otherwise traffic will move smoothly at the posted speed limit.

I wouldn't count on a cut through anytime.... well, probably ever. The Gila River Indian Community doesn't appreciate Casa Blanca being a bypass route to 347 or I-10. They recently closed the University of Arizona-Maricopa Agricultural Center road on Casa Blanca by placing a locked gate in front of it. Gila River PD consistently sits near Murphy Road looking for unauthorized vehicles on the reservation. GRIC will never assist in helping to relieve Maricopa's traffic congestion. They don't have to, either. Their land, their rules.

Honestly geewiz, stay away from the little glass pipes.  Jason, thank you for pointing out the signs.  I finally forced myself to look for the signs and observed them posted beyond most the intersections.  Do you have any idea how long they have been posted?  I kept threatening (to myself) to call ADOT and ask why they wouldn't put up such signs.  Glad they weren't snakes.  I guess I shouldn't run for U.S emporer this year

Scar maybe you should stay away from the little glass pipe and you eyes wouldn't be so glassed over. Then you would have noticed those signs months ago. They were placed up right after 347 was resurfaced.

Okay lefties, I am sure you have all seen black and white signs such as, dont drive on the median, left turn only, right turn only etc. I seems that these signs are obeyed but yet the signs that say slower traffic keep right are forgotten. Also to note these signs are not reflecting speed just "slower". To all of us other folks turn the frustration into humor by doing the following; as you pass the slow lefties in the right lane look at them and the amusment comes from the dumb looks, gaping mouths and just blank iidiotic stares.

the only one dictating what lane people should use is the highway patrol or state of Az whoever put the signs that say "slower traffic stay right". This is just common sense driving that unfortunately people forgot so much that a sign was needed to remind some people. Its a highway folks please drive like it was a highway. "SLOWER TRAFFIC STAY RIGHT, please!!!

When you follow the speed limit signs we'll follow the SLOWER TRAFFIC STAY RIGHT signs. You pick your law to break I'll pick my law that speeders cause me to break.

I hate to get involved in these types of conversations because everyone attacks everyone else but c'mon now. Everyone is hardheaded on here. Very opinionated and not willing to compromise with each other.

On that note, to the couple driving the silver bmw that was speeding recklessly and then had to pull over 2 times. Maybe that should have been a hint to you to slow down and take your time if you were having car problems. My husband and I got a great laugh out of that.

I just got to say to you Maricopians that speed past me and think you are the ****, you keep me entertained on my drive as I watch you get stuck behind a slow vehicle or are stopped at the red light as I pull up (and don't try to argue that you don't).

I think you missed the point..

It's not about arguing like 3rd graders over what laws people break... and "well, YOU break the law by speeding", and "well, YOU break the law by not following the sign"

It's about driver courtesy... think of it next time your stuck behind 2 people going 35mph in a 45mph zone.. because going UNDER the speed limit isn't always illegal either...

but let's face it.. speeders will always speed.. and control-freak-left-lane-lounge-tards will always have a reason to be.. well.. left lane lounge-tards...

I'll tell you this though.. I'll keep right.. and let the roadrager's take care of the left lane lounge tards..

driver courtesy includes not speeding by and endangering other motorists when you have to slam on your breaks as you weave in and out of traffic to get where youre going 5 minutes earlier..but as you said AZ...we will all choose to do as we please...as for me i drive 75-80 and choose to stay in the left lane instead of constantly going back and forth between lanes passing slower cars which to me is more dangerous then just staying put in the lane i choose to travel in...75-80 is plenty fast enough for the left lane...if anyone else decides to speed worse then this can pass me on the right side which is a more visible blind spot then the left blind spot in my opinion
