Alert | Since being rear ended on AZ-347 in January, I have become much more aware of other drivers. Everyone needs to remember that when they are driving, there one responsibility is to DRIVE! You are not the only person on the road, stop being so selfish. Put your phones down. You should have eaten breakfast, shaved and done your makeup before you left the house. Slow down. Those numbers on the side of the road, are the speed you are supposed to be traveling. Please don't tailgate me if I am in the slow lane and doing 10 miles over the speed limit. Please don't tell me that 75 is not fast enough. I would probably go slower if I thought you werent going to drive right up in my trunk. How about setting an example for your children instead of cursing, and jerking your car into the next lane and flooring it, and then jerking your car back into the lane in front of me. I especially like it when 2 minutes later when you are stopped at the stoplight and I pull slowly up behind you. I bet you are so glad that you wasted that extra gallon of gas to beat me to the light. I know I kind of rambled there but the long and the short of it is, please, have some common sense, and some common courtesy. Breathe, slow down and allow a little space between cars. You will find it is a much more pleasant driving experience.

Alert | | Just because you can't talk and drive doesn't mean everyone else should stop. I am on my phone all the time and have no problems handling my vehicle while on my phone. | | SID 4170 Channel 500 RSSI -86 EC/IO -8.2dB Frequency 1900 NID 2 Active set 177- Alpha

Alert | | pflast...perfectly put!! I totally agree. After my accident where someone t-boned me, i have noticed all the disrespectful drivers out there. The ones that amze me the most are the ones that have babies, kids, spouses in their vehicles with them. If my husband drove like a crazy man while our kids or myself were in the car, he would not hear the end of it. I can't believe the amount of people on here that think driving like a bat out of hell, impaired in anyway, distracted, etc is acceptable. My biggest pet peeve are people who don't use blinkers and then get pissed when I don't let them over. Forgive me for not being able to read minds but I paid extra money to make sure both of my vehicles had blinkers installed. Maybe you should have also!! I also use the cruise control that came in my vehicles. I set it at between 5-10 over and if the person behind me doesn't like it, go around me. I am not a tow company and you are definately not paying me to tow you. So to all you that will reply to this post and tell me what a jerk I am and how i need to get out of your way, just know that all your ranting and raving fall on deaf ears because I will always think of you lawbreakers as arrogant fools who have no ground to stand on.

One hand holding a phone glued to your ear is a universal impairment. Then the cigarette in the other hand...how does that work? Oh yeah, steer with knees when inhaling.
I've got no problems with cell phones when they are hands free. though I do catch myself grabbing mine and talking on occasion. I am also guilty...just not at 75 MPH swerving in and out of traffic.

Alert | There are some great truths, and some great misunderstandings all in this same topic. First of all, to pflast: I would tend to agree with your statements regarding the responsibillity to drive not being heeded. I am currently out 1 motorcycle and lucky to walk away due to an ADOT drivers inabillity to understand this concept. (while I'm on that subject, let me just say thank you to Milissa and Karen if you read this forum for all of your help in moving my bike which had me pinned against the barbwire fence - and NO thank you to the ADOT driver who didn't even stop because he didn't take the responsibillity of seeing me.) I do however disagree with some of what you've said as well. You will never find me agressively passing you while you are in the right lane, though you may if you are in the left lane uneccessarily. Jason: If you can talk on your cell and still maintain 100% attention to your driving, then I would hate to be the neglected person on the phone with you. It is very simple to understand that being on the phone no matter who you are is a distraction, and it has long been proven that the number one cause of accidents is distractions. BMW: I see your point about not using signals, and I use my signal at all times (well maybe here or there I might have missed using it, I'm not perfect) however, consider this. Only in AZ have I ever seen this as such a problem where people are more likely to successfully change lanes without using a signal then if they do. When I am going to change lanes, I signal that lane change immediately prior to initiating my change. Why? Because everytime I give advance notice of my intention to change lanes, the asshole that is 3 car lengths back in the lane I am switching to, slams the pedal to the floor in an attempt to close the gap. And for what? To keep me from going faster than them in their lane?
Again, I'm not perfect, in fact I'm far from. I'm that guy who passes pflast when he is going 75mph. However, I am not going to get in Pflast's way, I am not going to get angry at Pflast for going 75mph in the right lane and if the situation presents itself as outside of my abillities to safely maintain that speed, I will by all means slow down. But for the record, you will not find yourself slowly pulling up next to me at the red light, because my speed will have actually allowed me to make it to that same light while it was green, though it will have turned red by the time you get to it. And that is your right just as it is mine.

Couple of points:
#1) I only make calls when I don't need 100% of my attention on the road. Times when I've got the cruise control set and there is a huge amount of room between me and the car in front.
#2) I only make calls that don't require much of my attention. Things like, "Hey, I'm running XX minutes behind, just wanted to let you know."
#3) Hands-free would effectively allow me to make more demanding calls. Or are you saying it's impossible to talk to a passenger? Your trips must be awfully boring without any radio or passengers making a peep.

Alert | | I agree about the turn signals. I always use mine and have never been to a city where so few cars use them. How hard is it? | | SID 4170 Channel 500 RSSI -86 EC/IO -8.2dB Frequency 1900 NID 2 Active set 177- Alpha

Alert | If anyone has seen Shoot 'Em Up, well... that's all I have to say about turn signals. Do it, it's that simple. Also, pay respect to the semi's on the road and let them over when they signal, don't try to out run them... if anyone's towed anything with a vehicle before you know how nerve racking it can be to judge distances, let alone see other vehicles around them. A quick double flash when it's clear for them to move over helps them a lot to know it's safe to merge, and most of them appreciate it and will yield back to the right lane as soon as it's safe to allow you to continue at your speed. I've seen people ignoring this way to many times on 347 and 10 that it's not even funny...
