 Alert | So which dimwit in our public saftey decided that flashing people driving at night in the face with a stobe light was a good idea? I was on the 10 yesterday morning at about 5 am and there was one on the wild horse pass overpass flashing into everyones faces. What happens when that causes an accident? I guess billing for tickets is more important than the safety of the taxpayer writing your paychecks. Does anyone know who I can call to complain about this? It has to be illegal. | |

Alert | | Only one problem to the above suggestions. Man in Scottsdale crashed after being flashed when the 101 first installed the lights. In 3 seperate attempts to sue, the case was thrown out of Court because if he had not been speeding, he would have never crashed. I agree, those lights are bright in the day, so I can't imagine how bright they are at night. | | | |

Alert | | With the portable vans how do they know it was you speeding? being that I was surrounded by other cars? The problem is that it can take up to 15 min for your eyes to adjust after they are hit with a flash like that. We employ these departments to provide us safety and they are putting others in danger by flashing cars. What do they do when its flashing the car beside you and your crash? It is irresponsible... Had I been speeding that would be one thing, but I don't know who he was flashing because it went off like a strobe. | |

Alert | OK.. I think that you can fight it.. The 347 had the van out at 7:45 pm at night and if you can't see the post signs on the side of the road, than you can call it what it is.. a speed trap.

Alert | This was my point the last time I complained about this!
I WASN"T speeding. Everyone passing me not reading the warning signs was speeding! I was getting flashed like the poparatsi on Brittany! The fact that I wasn't speeding made the stobes startle me more! That and the fact that it is truly blinding in the dark. I would crash into the van, but I love my car too much. | |

Alert | Sinbad, your logic is retarded and apparantley not thought out very well. Just cause you didn't see any posting doesn't make it a speed trap. Do you tell the officer the same thing when he stops you. " I didn't see a sign you were hiding there, that's a speed trap" Instead of them stopping you, you get one in the mail. Save valueable man hours.
On the whole photo radar at night, I have opinions both ways. The light is very bright for night driving and shouldn't be used......buuuuuuuuuuut, just cause it is dark, doesn't mean speeding has stopped. Speed related accidents happen at night as well. Jhall might want to check his times as well. If it takes your eyes 15 minutes to re-adjust.....see an eye doctor. Should be a minute at most unless you have a problem. And if it does take 15 miutes, then the 347 would be a parking lot of people "readjusting" and nobody would be driving.

Actually, that does make it a speed trap. Read below (repost from Jason):
"28-654. Photo enforcement zones; signage; standards; citation dismissal
A. Except as provided in subsection F of this section, every local authority or agency of this state using a photo enforcement system shall adopt standards and specifications that indicate to a person operating a motor vehicle that a photo enforcement system is present and operational.
B. The standards and specifications adopted pursuant to subsection A of this section shall include both of the following:
1. At least two signs shall be placed in a location before a photo enforcement system. One sign shall be in a location that is approximately three hundred feet before the photo enforcement system. Placement of additional signs shall be more than three hundred feet before a photo enforcement system to provide reasonable notice to a person that a photo enforcement system is present and operational.
2. Signs indicating a photo enforcement system shall be removed or covered when the photo enforcement system is no longer present or not operating.
C. Signs erected by a local authority or agency of this state as prescribed in this section shall contain a yellow warning notice and correlate with and as far as possible conform to the system set forth in the most recent edition of the manual on uniform traffic control devices for streets and highways adopted by the director pursuant to section 28-641.
D. If the standards and specifications prescribed pursuant to this section are not in effect during the operation of a photo enforcement system, the court may dismiss any citation issued to a person who is identified by the use of the photo enforcement system.
E. During the time a vehicle containing photo enforcement equipment is being used to identify violators of this article and article 6 of this chapter, the rear of the vehicle shall be clearly marked to indicate that the vehicle is functioning as a photo enforcement vehicle. This subsection does not apply to a vehicle that does not contain a photo enforcement system and that is used by a law enforcement officer.
F. Subsection B of this section does not apply to a mobile photo enforcement vehicle during the time a mobile photo enforcement vehicle is deployed on streets with a posted speed limit of forty miles per hour or less."

Alert | I read an article last week about how a group of people in San Diego (I believe) were suing the operator of their local photo radar company. The basis of their lawsuit is that the company issuing the tickets is not a police agency, and therefore, it is illegal for them to be issuing tickets at all.
I tried searching for this article, but had no luck. Did anyone else read this same article? | | | |

Alert | | We have them on the ropes people. They have had to go to desperate measures to ticket people on the 347. In an article last week they were shutting down photo radar in some parts of Texas because their revenue was so far down they could not pay for the system. I am sure people on the 347 have been careful lately and the DPS is trying to collect in any way possible. If we continue to deny these tax collectors their game will be shut down. | | | |

Alert | The only problem is I saw on the news today that last year the ones on the 101 made over 10 million and our "wonderful" governor has decided that she is going to use it as a cop out for doing such a bad job balancing our budget.... Either way flashing in the dark is a bad idea... and before you question my "times" check your facts I was wrong too its not 15 min it can be between 30 and 45 min.
