You have a good point, and yes unfortunately, "they" (the traffic planners did not do that.)  They actually overlooked (in my view) the light that goes to the school.  There will now be multiple lights south of the tracks, that will add to the death toll.  And our school buses leave that light south of the tracks to take our kids home on the north side.  This whole subject troubles me.  Cactus Rob, I don't know where you live, but if you are a parent of a Maricopa student and your kids bus travels this route... Need I say more!!!!  I'm a Granny for Heavens sake!  I'm tackleing this problem for my grandkids safety.

I live in the Villages and my youngest grandchild is 20 years old and lives in Oklahoma.  It's just that I still believe "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".  I don't hear that much any more.  Instead, it's "take no action until there is a demonstrated need".   Even when lives are at stake!

According to our resident soothsayer, Jason, who crossed tracks in Tempe many times and never saw this, this is not supposed to, nor never will happen.  Yeah, right.

They do have a light on the southside of the tracks before the light.   I could also be that oncoming trains will trigger the red light far enough in advance for traffic to clear the area.

I didn't delete anything. You're paranoid. I did say what you quoted, but that isn't a statement that no one here will get hurt. That's just my experience with a traffic signal so close to the tracks. You read in the rest.

If you are stupid enough to stop your car on the tracks, then you deserve to get hit by the train and good riddance to you.  One less dumb@ss in the world, boohoo.

Reality check:  the train has hit cars there before; resulting in fatalities; this is without the stop lights.  People do stop on the tracks or try to beat the train.  If you are on the tracks and waiting in traffic, where do you go if the train is coming the the arms go down?

Thanks for the info, maricopacabana.   I was unaware of the signal south of the tracks and I should have investigated before posting. 

If northbound traffic is going to be stopped south of the tracks, then everything should work fine.  Especially so if traffic signals in all directions are controlled by an oncoming train, allowing only right turns onto JWP from MCG Hwy as the train travels through.  That would make the intersection and RR crossing even safer than it is presently. 

I do that when there is a problem with the quotes or smilies. I repost the same thing with the correct formatting and smilies and then take out the original with just a '.' within minutes of posting. I don't go back after the fact and wipe out posts like that.
