A friend of mine moved out here about a year ago. Ever since he has been out here he's been using the Fry's gas cause it's less crowded and right by his house. He has gone through 2 fuel pumps in that time frame. The last shop that worked on his car came out and said, "Do you get your gas at a grocery store?".. thinking this guy was joking or something, he said yeah... The mechanic told him some stories that kind of scared him. Like valve deposits, fuel pumps, bad gas mileage. He called Chevrolet and asked them about the fuel. They said to use only top tier station to prolong the life of his car. He has done some research on the fuel - and found some amazing stuff. The "bottom of the barrel" stuff that grocery stores bid for.. Stuff that goes though diesel pipes, then cleaned and first x amount of gallon is "dirty gas" and that is sold to grocery stores. He event went as far as contacting Mythbusters on the Discovery channel. They loved the idea of testing the fuel, but felt it might be a touch subject and said they wouldn't consider doing a show on that. Have any of you had problems due to poor gas at "cheaper places"? I know back in like 2000 I had new truck with 5.7 and my friend had a 5.1. He would beat me in a race.. until he used cheap gas. When he went back to Mobile.. he'd beat me.. so I know performance and MPG is hampered.. |
