There's a really good article in this week's monitor about light pollution.

What about the folks that bought in RED because there were no streetlights? Perhaps we took the time to find out about our surroundings before we plunked down the cold hard cash. I say no streetlights. I did the research and bought here for that reason. I am certain many others did also. Like the saying goes: Stupid should hurt!

We are also in RED and love the fact that there are no street lights. Nothing could be better than sitting in our backyard and looking at the stars.

Our crappy builder did not put up coach lights either, however, my other half is an electrician and put all kinds of custom lighting on our house set to a sensor dusk to dawn! Love it and would also love my neighborhood more if we had less street lights especially the one that hits me directly in the eyes while in the bed. I hate to put up foil on the window in addition to the bamboo blinds, that would look tacky.

Live every day as if it were your last and smile!

Skip the Lights and fix your problem!

http://www.switchboard.com/Martial+Arts+&+Self+Defense+Instruction/Phoenix/AZ/242-/yellowpages.htm

Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, LA are light up like a christmas tree and does not stop bad guys.

Coyotes will run from you, they wieght 30 lbs tops, Most people can't see a rattlesnake at noon let alone in twight light. So you will not fix your problem with lights.

If all esle fails,

Leave my little city in the country alone!

There really isnt a reason to be afraid of scorpians either. There hasnt been a single reported death from a scorpian in AZ in over 40 years. And how often do you actually hear about people getting stung?

#1. I have asthma. I am at a high likelihood of severe complications from a scorpion sting.
#2. We usually see several per year, and I have had one crawl on me.

So yes, my concern is valid.

Sorry DD, any scorpion I see is getting killed ASAP. To this day I occasionally feel it crawling up my leg...

I completely understand light pollution but I also understand people wanting more light in a dense city, where frequent construction is likely to disturb and make otherwise harmless critters active.

My husband is also highly allergic to them. He is allergic to bee's and scorpians and bees have the same sort venom. You know what he does about that? He carries an Epipen!

Actually the construction is going to make the scorpians hide most likely. Honestly, the light is not going to do anything. Yes, my husband is allergic to their stings but he (stupid I know) had one as a pet for quite sometime. Never was stung. Basically when there is too much going on around them, like construction, they hide. Unless you are laying on the ground outside or something they are very unlikely to approach you, being such a big object.

An Epipen is fine, but that means an ER trip and possible (or probable) hospitalization. Can't really afford one of those right now. Honestly, the light does something. And based on my experience of having one crawl on the underside of my leg to get out of the light, I'd say I have a fair idea of what I'm talking about.

I agree with more street lights. I live in MM as well. I am in the middle of the block and with the lack of fellow neighbors it is pitch black on the street at nighttime. I, too, do not feel comfortable walking out of the house in the evening by myself. In addition, it's hard to read the streetsigns with the lights on the opposite side of the street as them. They tend to be shadowed and you literally have to stop to see the name.

Tell me where to sign a petition! I am in!
