There is a difference between martial law, which is the suspension of the Constitution and some civil liberties, and abuse of police power, which is what we have here.

The police abuse is caused by individuals acting singularly rather that a government edict, which would be required for martial law. Police abuse is serious stuff. Imagine yourself getting arrested for DUI only to wake up in a hospital because some officer beat you senseless. No crime warrants the abuse of police power. Sure, drunks can be loud, obnoxious, and a real pain to deal with. The smell bad, they puke in the back of your patrol car. Sometimes they are combative and confrontational. A police officer has to be above reacting to this, which is why they deserve our respect.

For any officer who dumps a quadriplegic out of a wheelchair or beats a suspect in custody, they need not only to be fired but criminally prosecuted.

I'm thinking the same thing DD. The amount of force a cop uses should be dictated by a rational assessment of the situation, not the cop's level of anger or frustration. Another thing that's really a shame about these types of situations is the harm they do to the image of cops in general, which has to be frustrating for all of those good ones who are truly deserving of our respect.

ALANF, this is just a portion of how this all starts, her and there, then we start to accept it, as if the person did something wrong, then we start thinking its ok.

You act like this is new stuff. Police have been abusing power since...well, forever. Do you know why we have Miranda rights? Police abuse of power. We don't accept it and I don't think it's terribly worse than it ever was. You just have easier access to the information.

I don't agree with the idea of a martial law conspiracy, but I don't agree with AlanF either about the woman in the first video. Perhaps she was drunk (can't quite tell what she was.. she wasn't slurring though), perhaps she was enraged from the situation. In any case, it's obvious that the officer is lying and beat the cr@p out of her--nobody sustains those kinds of injuries and in multiple places from 'falling.' Give me a break. To say that excessive force was used is an obvious understatment.

Look, I'm the first to say that an officer should use any force necessary in a situation against a violent, dangerous criminal. Also, I think that some cops are placed in situations that would make anyone snap.

But let's look at this situation. There was no danger to the officer's life, the victim was cuffed, and he could have easily taken any number of rational measures to sedate her (maybe even just locking her in a cell and letting her rant to the walls until she calmed down). Instead he lost his cool, causing him to beat the hell out of someone who was in no position to do harm to him and was cuffed with no control over her situation. If that officer had such a lack of control over his temper in such a non-threatening situation, than imagine how out of control he must be dealing with the much more stressful situations that he could face on the street.  The man is obviously unfit to wear the uniform.

But to say that it's a conspiracy is pretty overboard.  It's a situation of a cop losing it and doing something clearly wrong.  The precinct is at fault for placing a greater emphasis on protecting their own (by covering the full truth) than on doing what's right--but this again is not a conspiracy.

I'm not saying he didn't beat the crap out of her. However, falling COULD cause that much damage. 2 blacks eyes, broken teeth, and the forhead cut could have all been caused by one fall. If she was cuffed (hands behind back) she would likely land on her face. Remember a broken nose is almost a guaranteed 2 black eyes. But there definitely should have been a female officer present.....

She definitely sounded pretty "shakey" during that interview though. Lying about something for sure...

Umm.. doesn't the timing of the camera being turned off by the cop just before she "fell" seem a little suspicious?

Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. They proceed by strict logic, eliminating any appeal to the emotions. Socialism, on the contrary, works on the emotions, tries to violate logical considerations by rousing a sense of personal interest and to stifle the voice of reason by awakening primitive instincts.

When it does come time, I will fight, live or die my child will know that I stood for freedom and belief in my country, the freedoms that so many men died for are still remembered in a few of us, so that our children didn't have to wake up in a society ran by a few rich men to be controlled by police in ski masks and submachine guns, screw that ****. There are still many out there that believe we run this country and not a bunch of corrupt politicians that we so glady let destroy our Constitution.

We should never forget that essential to our freedom is due process of law. Without it, we live in a tyrannical police state where, regardless of what liberties we're permitted, they're only at the whim of those in power at the time.  Civil liberties are an entitlement, not a gift from the government.

Removal of one's civil liberties, regardless of how egregious the crime of which they're accused, should only be done after careful consideration and due process of law.  The police officer is only there to bring the accused to justice, note to mete out punishment.

Yes, due process is important, and while I don't think this was part of a conspiracy, it definitely shows a lack of due process on the part of this officer, and an attempt to cover it up by his precinct.

LampLite, I also worry that we are not in control of our government; that over time this has been ceded to corporations, who now have much more say over what happens than we do, through their money and control of politicians (in both parties).  Just look at the money being spent on election campaigns recently and how much of it is required for a politician to be considered a serious player....

It's like the old saying goes, "give me control of the nations monitary supply, and I care not who makes the laws." Here's another good one from Woodrow Wilson at the end of his presidency, this is after he let the Federal Reserve in.-

"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world. No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men."
