Alert | Is there a place to find a link to all the candidtates' websites? In the election section on here you can email them all but no links to their websites. Would be nice if that was listed next to their emails.

Alert | azcarcarrier, Im sorry the email did not go through. I certainly encourage people to ask questions. As far as the deal between the city and Community of Hope Church goes. I have been checking into the information being provided. I have questions just like everyone else does, but I am not ready to bash Mr Smith or the church over it because the specualtion far outweigh the details. My first thought is it was dangerous to announce the deal before the church closed escrow on their land and equally dangerous for the city to announce any plans until the details were fully disclosed. There intentions from the church may be wonderful, I dont know, I am not a member, but just like the annexation, airport, and redevelopment deals, it was handled poorly.. That is one of the main problems facing our city, is even if a deal is legit, the city has become overrun with mistrust so every deal is going to be scrutinized. Thats one of the first things I intend to fix. I believe information is the most valuable tool you can have. I have been blasted continuously on here for information I have shared about things like the redevelopment district, annexation, the airport, etc. The fact is the information I am sharing is just that, information. I propose communication improvements such as a "State of the City" address through all media sources to keep the citizens up-to-date on ongoing and upcoming projects because I believe it gives people things to look forward to. We have a State of the Union, a State of the State, why not a State of the City. If we can restore the trust and open communications instead of running rampant on rumors than it will make it that much easier to make progress. Most people can handle the truth, even if they dont like it. City departments should be excited and proud to share information that affects all of us. There are some good things happening too, but many people arent aware of them. I believe the city departments should produce updates on a monthly basis or at the very least, quarterly. Mr Smiths idea of town hall meetings is good too, I simply pointed out that we do not have a facility to accomodate enough people. So until then we have to think outside the box. The next thing to do will be to set a clear path toward the growth we need. We need to settle on a city hall site and build it, we need to find a site for youth activities, such as a YMCA and make it happen, we need to recognize that the city has not yet found its "identity" and rally people together to determine one. We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on consultants and yet still use the excuse "we are a new city we are going to make mistakes". There are 100 things that need to happen "in order" for us to be a successful city and we are so concerned with items 85 and 49 that we have lost focus on the top 5. Those top 5 if done correctly make the remainder just that much easier because they are the next logical step. An example of that is the development fees we charge here. Which I address repeatedly on my website so I wont spell them all out here. But the creation of just one major employment center here does more for taxes, high commercial rent that leads to high retail prices, transportation, and even home values than anything else. Think about it, 300 jobs here will remove 200-300 cars off of 347 during rush hour, 300 jobs mean more people spending their money in our local establishments, which increases our sales tax revenue (which is one of our leading sources of revenue), 300 jobs means sparking a pitiful housing market as employees transfer in or out or get promotions and decide to upgrade, 300 jobs means attracting 300 spouses that may just have education backgrounds and address our education system problems. Lower fees means lower commercial rent and lower retial prices, making our local businesses more competitve. We need to lean on our strengths and fix our weaknesses. If we are counting on waiting for another housing boom to ride, we are making a fatal error. There is a saying in the stock market, which I am very active in..."Anyone can make money in a "BULL" (or uptrending) market, its those that make it in the "BEAR" (or downtrending) market that are successful. The spark has to come from us. Even if it is one project at a time. We have to start somewhere because right now we are spread out way too thin and even though we may have the desire, we dont have the focus to complete the job.

I just wish you would have started this up sooner and got your name on the ballet. Getting the "Write-in" vote is difficult when most people can just check a box.

I just can't vote for this guy, he makes too much sense. It would be going against everything this city has stood for.

Sorry, Mr. Godsey, but it's beginning to look like you have no intention to fix anything.
As Maryman put it, You had your opportunity to speak out regarding the land deal for the park, but you didn't. WHY? You certainly spoke out about it, throwing dirt, on your own website and a little on this site, but you didn't have the guts to speak out when it would have counted.

Alert | No, you are correct, I did not speak to the council about this matter. Fixing the current council members that have met no other interests in the city besides their own is not my goal, replacing them is. The current administration has already proven to most, that community input goes largely ignored. The decision on this deal was made long before any of us ever brought up the topic, the vote on Tuesday was merely a formality. Rarely does the council respond to a call to the public or to comments raised, they merely listen politely. Speaking out at this council has proven to be a waste of time.

Alert | | For the record....I am NOT against the expansion of the park. I believe Marty McDonald has done a great job and have told him so. I am NOT against the COH church for their willingness to sell land to the city. For the city to buy land appraised at $80,000 for $70,000 is a good deal. What I have said is I AM against and do not support the manner in which the deal was handled. It was a deal that because of conflict-of-interests with city officials, needed to be handled more appropriately so the appearance of wrong-doing or a "shady" deal was addressed. My opinion is, the city should have waited until the church had closed escrow and then presented their intentions based on the facts.

Alert | Nice cover attempt, Mr. Godsey. You still had the opportunity to voice your opinion and you didn't.
AND for the record, you did say you were against it. I know you're getting yourself into a big loop of lies here, so for your memory, see your comment posted by you on this article:
http://85239.com/NEWS/NewsArticleDetails.aspx?mid1=430&&ArticleID=3146
Here let me help and copy your quote:
"Yes this was a unanimous vote to approve and no, as a Mayoral candidate, I did not support it."

Alert | | My memory is quite fine. I was not opposed to the deal itself but I was and still am opposed to the vote that took place and the manner in which the deal developed. I cannot explain it any simpler to those few people blasting me without purchasing "Hooked on Phonics" books. Im sorry for your misunderstanding of things.
