 Alert | I met her tonight and I really liked her. I liked her experience in City government and I especially liked her commitment to Maricopa. She's very involved. It was nice to speak to someone running for office in Maricopa. I've now spoken with her, Carl Deidtrich (spelling?) and Michael Godsey and I like all three of them. Anyone else getting to know the people running for office in Maricopa? | |

Alert | I can honestly say that I have read the profiles of those running, as per 85239.com front page news, but have yet to meet any of them in person. Good on ya Nothingtodo for getting so involved. We should all strive to be as involved as you. I know that there are many others here in the 'Copa doing the same thing. Heck, Sinbad is all about "Smith for Mayor" lol. I think it is great that we are all paying this much attention to our local election and the issues that our votes are supporting or opposing!
Even though I have not met any of the candidates in person, aside from them (maybe) being in front of me at the Fry's check-out, I do at least read what is being put out there for public consideration.
Before moving to AZ, Maricopa specifically, I had never been overly involved in local elections. Since being here I have witnessed first-hand how my vote will make a difference and that active involvement, if only through a community forum's info and my vote, will make a difference.

Alert | I have spoken with Robert Lewis, also running for City Council. He teaches economics at CAC. I think that he brings invaluable knowledge to this city.
I know a few of the people running for Council and he's the only one who I can vote for in good conscience.

Alert | I know Marty Hermanson very well. He is down to earth and is looking to give the goverment back to the people. He is planning on having the city website changed to include more detailed minutes from all of the meeting's. He also mentioned to me that video taping the council meetings and posting them on the city site is another way to get people involved.
I like those ideas, I can't go to the council meeting's because I have to play "Daddy Night care". It would be nice to watch the meetings online while I am at work or home. | |

LOL... hey .. I did't make my mind up yet!! But Smith has been listening to the questions and answering them on the forum... So that's a plus. At least that is some form of interaction. | |

I like Marty as well and I think video taped meetings is a FABULOUS idea! I can't make the meetings either, but I've never really gone out of my to do so. I ususally turn to my 85239.com site and forum to hear other's real opinions (as opposed to those expressed, or not expressed at the meetings). I love this site lol. The Politics section is really heating up too, all the stuff I love to gab on about is being discussed, it's a lot of fun! | |

Alert | In San Diego they would be televised on the San Diego city channel. If you wanted to see it, you could just watch it from home.
I wonder if we could tie Orbital into hosting it on the Maricopa Channel they have... hum. | |

$50 bucks... was it worth it to deal with him?

The original question sounded a lot more shady than the actual event and I'm relieved about that. So, she took support from someone who isn't popular and has allegations of misconduct. I'm not sure how I would have handled it personally were the situation presented to me, but I don't see anything shady about what she's done. | |

Alert | Actually, Rick is making a statement and it's one that I very much agree with. He gave money to everyone EXCEPT the incumbent candidates. He believes, like I do, that it's time for a change. Out with the old, in with the new. Who is in a better position to know who should and should not be in City leadership than the former city manager.

Alert | Let's just say he "TRIED" to give money to everyone other than the incumbent I know of atleast one person (Marty Hermanson) that isn't taking anyone's money..exspecially from Rick Bus. Former city Manager that was wrapped up in getting a sweet deal from the City to just leave...sounds like he is trying to get his foot in the door with the new city council.
I just don't agree with them accepting money from someone that was wrapped up in so much Controversy.
and that's just my take on it.. so there you have it. | |

Alert | I think there's enough drama in politics without adding to it. A lot of accusations and judgement are based on nothing but guesses and conjecture and I'm steering clear of it when I vote. I'm voting based on what I think the candidates can do for our city in order to reach it's potential. | |

Rick Buss is suing the city for 5.77 million dollars. by taking the $50 she won't be able to talk about the law suit. What is she going to do? Tony, and Carl won't be able to talk about it either if they are elected. We just paid the guy $80,000 + just to go away and look what happen.
This is what taking Money from Rick Buss has done. Created more drama for what might be our "NEW" city council members and Mayor.
