Best:

1. Reagan (of course)
2. Washington
3. Lincoln

Worst.

1. Clinton
2. Bush ( with another 1+ to go, he will be worst very soon.)
3. Carter
4. Harrison, William Henry (served 31 days before dying in first month in office from a cold.)

Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.

Reagan sold weapons to Iran and Iraq during his time in office so im gonna have to scratch him, my vote for best President will have to be Andrew Jackson just on the simple fact that he liked to fistfight and had no problem taking his issues to the street.

Best - 1. Reagan, 2. Lincoln, 3. Washington/Truman
Worst - 1. Carter, 2. Harding, 3. Buchanan.

Here are some presidents everyone likes....but my reasons for putting them middle of the pack.

Washington--Federalist. Smashed Whiskey and Shay's Rebellions brutally. I find that highly hypocritical for a founder of the consitution.

Lincoln--Brutal, northern aggressor.

FDR--Ushered in era of over reliance on Federal Government.

***offical stop by***

I have read and understood the posting on this thread and have nothing to add.

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

you seriously put Reagan in front of Washington AND Lincoln??

IMO.. Washington and Lincoln (independently) did more for this country than 14,000 Reagan's could ever have wished to have done...

Reagan was good.. but on the level of Washington and/or Lincoln? Hardly..

Ten men have served as president during my adult lifetime, beginning with Dwight Eisenhower. Quite frankly, I've never noticed much difference.

I'm interested for the reasoning for those that listed Clinton as one of the worst presidents? I wouldn't say he was great, but I'm trying to figure out how he would get ranked in the top 3 worst.

Jefferson is my favorite, and FDR I would say is the most overrated (but not the worst).

Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. They proceed by strict logic, eliminating any appeal to the emotions. Socialism, on the contrary, works on the emotions, tries to violate logical considerations by rousing a sense of personal interest and to stifle the voice of reason by awakening primitive instincts.

Hard to rank... there are so many. In my lifetime I would have to say Clinton, but that is solely on how he disgraced the office of the President with the whole impeachment thing. If he hadn't had all the scandal he wouldn't have been that bad. As far as policy, he was sort of blah. Didn't do anything I really liked, but didn't really do too much to irritate me either.

One good thing Clinton did is get successful welfare reform enacted. It didn't go nearly far enough, but was better than what the previous Republican administration accomplished.

Washington and the other Federalists used Shays to justify a stronger federal government. Its interesting, some of the parallels between that time and the current Bush propaganda machine that used fear mongering to convince people there are freedom hating terrorists behind every rock just waiting to kill us. Just like Shays the federal government (or what would become that) used those events to scare the public and politicians into handing more power to the federal government.

I think so many pick Washington as one of the best because he is (supposedly) so well known from all our years of schooling. I think we have to cut him some slack since he didn't have a bunch of Presidents before him to learn from (or blame)their mistakes.

Here are some of my grips with Clinton.

Not taking out Bid Laden on many oppurtunities. Bush can be faulted for the same thing.

Didn't deport known member of the 9/11 attacks before the attack. The Pentagon had many of them IDed and wanted to get rid of them because they knew something was going to happen. Clinton said no because he didn't want another Elian Gonzalez. The operation was called Able Danger, and this is probably some of the documents that Sandy Berger "accidentially" stole in his underwear.

Sold our space secrets to China. Before Clinton, they couldn't fly a missle straight, now they are in space thanks to Silly Billy. They also just finished their first nuclear submarine. Someone should investigate where they got those secrets from. Treason comes to mind.

Pardons for cash scandal. Much worse than commuting Scooters sentence.

The whole Monica thing. Not that he had an affair, its practically expected in DC. But the fact that he lied about it and had such a costly in-depth investigation continue on why he lied.

Let me know if you need more.

Shane, I don't discount what Washington and Lincoln did for this country. I think you could put anyone of them in either spot, 1, 2, or 3. Reagan did a lot of things with this massive government that Lincoln and Washington never would have imagined could be so big. I think each where the best in their own time, and put into each others terms, they would have been good leaders. However, I don't think someone from the 1700's or 1800's would even know where to start with a government this size.

By far best in mho Teddy Roosevelt.. He did so much for this country that still exists today. IF he did not step in on so many things this country would be very different today. Next in order Reagan, Jefferson, and Washington.

Worst Chester Arthur. Everybody forgets he was a president which says it all.. Then in order Harding, Nixon, and Taft.
