Alert | | When I hear our government approve another 75-85 billion for our troops (which I am not against), I can't help but wonder how that money could be used in our own country to help our own: the poor, develop a health insurance program for all americans, our schools, develop a environmentally safer fuel, cure for cancer, help wives, children, and families who have lost a soldier in battle, etc.. Another concern is lost of lives. Who knows what great things in the future may have been done by one of our dying soldiers. Maybe they would have developed a cure for cancer or maybe the child they might have had would be the next nobel prize winner. Who knows? I do know our children are our most precious gift. Just something to think about. Having said that. I have two sons in the military. One in the Navy and one the the Army who I am very proud of.

Alert | On the same token Nitwit (btw, I feel like I am insulting you by calling you by your SN, but it is not the case)...what could one of the 3000+ killed people possibly have done. We can speculate all day about what might have been. Don't get me wrong, I am not pro war. I would love peace time. Unfortunately, our enemy does not share my feelings,
I agree that this war is not necessarily the most well managed in US history. Unfortunately, our enemy is not wearing a clearly defined uniform. The enemy could be men, women, or children dressed in civilian clothing with a bomb strapped to their chest. It makes it a difficult war to win. But as I said earlier, I believe we are much safer with the fight overseas.
I have never been in the military and my kids are not old enough to enlist. I can't speak from the mind of a soldier nor that of a soldier's family. However, I have the ultimate respect and gratitude for the sacrifices that they make (as well as you, the families that give up so much so that we can remain safer).
Thank you for your sacrifice, and please thank your sons for their service.

Personally, I think $75-80 Billion should buy us just enough bombs to make one great big parking lot of Iraq, Iran, North Korea, and anyone else who still doesn't believe we have the Greatest Military on earth. | | Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.
