The first thing Marty said was they wanted to initiate a dialouge to creat an RFP. He was very clear that the intention was to start the process that would lead to the creation, not merely to create one. The Council apparently wasn't paying attention.

I'm not saying Marty and his department haven't done a fantastic job. I'm saying if you want to form a committee to seek direction and input - say that. Don't call for an RFP when you want a committee.

No, no, they need a consultant not a committee.

fritzy is right in respect to how the agenda item was presented ... Parks and Rec was requesting an RFP.

I think the intention and point of the RFP request was missed last night.

My understanding of the process was that Marty was looking to begin the RFP process to secure potential land areas for the FUTURE development of these things. Right now the city owns nothing. They lease the land their services are provided from. If parcels of land are out there available right now, Parks and Rec is taking the correct approach in doing an RFP for that aquisition instead of just finding a property and trying to push it through (see Peed Property).

As Marty said last night, the window of opportunity on things opens and closes rapidly. Waiting until August isn't going to jeapardize the price of land too much, but not moving forward on land purchases for the development of citizen services is a mistake.

The agendas for city council meetings are usually emailed out to whoever requests to be added to the general city council email list (contact Vanessa Bueras at city hall for more info) on the Wednesday prior to the council meeting. The official agenda posting usually happens on the day before the meeting so they have time from the initial sending of the agenda to the day before for changes.

I will post the intial "unofficial" agendas and then update with the official ones once they are posted.

You can also check www.cityofmaricopa.net for the latest postings. State law requires cities that have a web page to post their agenda on that website using the same rules as other public postings.
