Alert | | Just so everyone knows, I have been informed of the oath a firefighter takes when they join a department. from an inside source these two firefighters were released due to conduct non becoming a firefighter. And YES the remainder of the firefighters will probably be reprimanded. I am keeping this petition up here but I just wanted to post that

Alert | what kind of chief will give their jobs back?
Get the job back and same thing happens in a few months. Sends a message that its ok. You will get fired and then be reinstated.
Alcohol makes bad judgement=mistakes.
Do we need a policy of no relatives on the MFD. Yes. Now that would be a worthwhile petition.!!!!

Alert | | It is a bum deal that you all have to go through this. This was an unfortunate lesson for the whole dept to learn. | | "Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent." -Marilyn vos Savant

Being a "Right to Work" state has to do with union shops.
True..."Right to Work" state does involve the right to join a union or not without any recourse from the company. If you don't join the union then you are an "at will employee". You have the right to quit a job without reason or cause. At the same time the company has the right to fire you without reason or cause. A person on "probation" is subject to the will of the hiring entity. Of course you can always sue for what ever reason you like if you fail your probation period. | | Sometimes we just make life to difficult.

Alert | | Have you ever actually seen an online petition do anything? If you tell me yes can you please send me the link to your information? Online petitions are worthless, I have never seen them make any difference.

Alert | Posted By magnetic on 07/29/2007 1:27 PM I say keep them fired. They were involved in an assault.
i agree. there must be consequences. if firing was the consequence of choice, i'm supportive. if they were assigned to 347 clean up duty, i would have been supportive. | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

As a matter fact if pilots get DUI's for driving they can loose their job as a pilot.
This holds true for Fire Fighters too... Came straight from a FF's wife's mouth!!!!
And this fire fighter was on a rotation through our Maricpa Station too.. | | Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem. ______________________________________ *************************************** San Diego Super Chargers! GO!!! Alert | I think they may have learned their lesson from all this. However, if in fact, they were to be reinstated, it should be somewhere else, other than Maricopa. That way, they save face on the whole ordeal. And the fire department can reclaim their integrity with the community once again. I have to be honest, before the apology, I'd see their trucks around town and would utter unpleasant comments to myself. With them on board with MFD still, would only subject them to public ridicule. They should be spared of that and start over somewhere else. I'm sure many will feel the same.
TJ...Hertzog and Ashton are very lucky to have friends like you to support them at a time like this.

Alert | | um, i come from boston, there and in new york city, as 2 examples, fire fighting is a profession that goes back many generations in a lot of families. particularly irish families. it is a proud and honorable tradition passed down again and again. as has been posted before, the only issue i see is if one family member has direct supervision over another. i think bringing nepotism into this, and suggesting that only 1 member of a family be allowed to work for FDM is patently absurd.

Alert | Just a thought.
If one cannot control themselves "off" duty in a time of stress, could it be logical to assume that under stress "on" duty that something unwanted could also occur? Maybe this is part of the chiefs thoughts?!
