Allegations out of County Brook Precinct in LD 20 are that a 78-year old woman named Ruth Levine, who uses a walker, was voting today when a car pulled up and out jumped State Senator John Huppenthal. After Huppenthal passed out some literature and talked to voters, he allegedly pulled a knife and cut down a Democratic Party sign that said “Huppenthal and McComish voted against Corona High School.” Ruth Levine witnessed Huppenthal’s sign slashing and confronted the State Senator about his action. Huppenthal told Levine he “had permission” to slash the sign. Levine disagreed with Huppenthal and asked him to put the sign back – when Huppenthal refused, she attempted to get the sign out of his hands and Huppenthal engaged in a tug of war with Levine. Huppenthal won the tug of war and threw the sign in his back seat. Levine tried to grab the sign from his back seat when Huppenthal sped off in his car, knocking the 78-year old woman and her walker to the ground. Reports are that police and media are on the scene and Levine plans to file assault charges against State Senator Huppenthal.
