How Sarah Palin Handled Corruption

By Cynical Alaskan

<script type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"> </script>

From an Alaskan who is a very serious cynic about all things political, here is my take on Sarah.

I met and spoke with Sarah Palin about two years ago at our downtown park strip. It is a place for walking, carnivals, political outdoor things and such. She was cooking hotdogs at a fund raiser and introducing herself to the public as a Governor hopeful.

She came by and said the usual "Hi, I'm Sarah Palin and I am running for Governor"...and I expected her to keep on to the next person but she asked me who I was and what I did in Alaska and we ended up talking for 15 minutes about me, Air America (she was all agog!) and my career in the Army and AAM. She is a pilot (Super Cub) I'm told, although all she told me about that was that she loved flying.

As I watched her successful run for governor over the next six months, I was really impressed. In fact I already was impressed greatly even before that, after she resigned a good position (Alaska Gas and Oil Regulatory Commission) because a fellow Commission member (Chair of the Alaska Republican Party) misused his office and position. He was using the fax, computers, printing room and all to promote the Republican endeavors while in a state job. That is a huge no-no in any government employment position.

She resigned and made her point, and within weeks Randy Ruderich (the above bad guy) found his butt out on the street and a subsequent investigation found him guilty and he was fined $12,000. Small change actually but a giant point was made.

Next she went after our most horrible Governor ever, Governor Murkowski, and damned if she didn't beat him! All of us here in Alaska, except the Democrats, are sick of our state's corruption. That fact was shouted to the heavens after she was elected with an overwhelming point spread.

After she got into office she started going after corrupt legislators, and with the FBI's help we've put four of them in prison, indicted six more and the "Corrupt Bastard's Club" as they arrogantly called themselves (even had hats made with CBC on the front!) suddenly found it no fun anymore.

The current flap which has cost her a ten point loss of popularity (she's still 82%!) was over firing a popular Commissioner of Public Safety who is responsible for our Alaska State Troopers. She fired him for no stated reason, which was her prerogative as the guv. He served entirely at her option. She and her whole family had a bad, bad experience with a rogue Trooper who was married to Sarah's sister. His name is Trooper Wooten. This dimwit Trooper had threatened Sarah's father (death threat!), threatened Sarah ("I'll get you too", Tasered his 12 year old stepson, drove drunk in his AST cruiser, got a pass by a fellow Trooper who stopped him for erratic driving a second time while in civvies, and just a host of other things not yet released to the public. He got away with it and got another pass by the Commissioner's appointed AST Trooper Internal Affairs investigator with a tiny slap on the wrist. Five days off without pay to be exact.

This maverick Trooper is still on the payroll but only just. The union's intervention saved his malcontent butt. He'll yet get his, I'm sure. Incredible heat is being heaped on the Troopers. Public heat, not the Governors office.

The Democrats had the audacity to appoint an obviously biased investigator, Rep. "Gunny" French (so called because he lied about being in the USMC while running for the legislature) is a staunch liberal and probably under the orders of Senate President Lyda Green who hates Sarah. She hates Sarah because after being elected Governor Sarah told the whole Legislature in one of her first meetings with them that, quote; "All of you here need some Adult Supervision!"

Sarah was seriously angry and not afraid of anyone there. That played wonderfully well with Alaskans. We are sick of all of our corruption watched her successful battles against a seriously entrenched corrupt government before she took on the legislature. The whole legislature was angry back at her and still are, but also afraid of her because of her popularity.

She reminds me personally of our Alaska wolverine which will fight anything in its path if it sees fit to do so. No respect at all for size or position.

In closing I must tell you that she is the best, most moral and most focused leader I've seen since President Reagan. I feel, really strongly that like Alaska, the rest of our country will love her within a few weeks. Put simply, she represents Middle America like no leader we've ever had.

I think McCain made a totally brilliant move in choosing her. She's a maverick who is probably tougher and more focused than McCain himself... and she won't be a total yes man, or more appropriately, yes woman.

McCain will love her.

In 2012 she will be President.

Why Marni?

The word is defined as follows......."One who is unorthodox in his/her ideas, attitudes, etc"

Does that pose a threat to you or your beliefs Marni? If so......maybe we need some of this in our political system for a change. The "word" doesn't make you right or me me wrong, but it sounds a little intimidationg to you for some reason.....

Have a nice day.....

It is overused that is all, as is the change word. The media needs a larger vocabulary. Not intimidated, so please don't assume such.

You have a nice day as well

She's got my vote. To bad she isn't running for the president position. Maybe in the next four years.. She sounds great

Drummer, do you ever have anything to say about politics beyond stupid one-liners and soundbytes? Surely you must have an opinion on Palin besides she's "junk" or on Obama besides he's "change?" I may disagree with other Democrats on these boards, but at least they're saying something. Who knows, maybe you'll offer up a point of view some of us have never considered before?

Its apparent that Democrats think she is going to be great as well. If they didn't think so, then they would just sit back and watch everything blow up on its own. They are so worried that there will be a successful women, and its not on their ticket. I have never seen such a double standard in politics in my life.

Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.

Apparently, the concept of a successful and powerful woman is great unless you are up against one. The suggestions from some Obama supporters that she is a bad mother and that she should stay home with her kids is hilarious. I never thought I would hear liberals take the stance of "a womans place is in the home". The hypocrisy is mind boggling.

McCain picked her because she is a woman, which should insult women. No one heard of Palin until he picked her. There are better choices out there for VP for McCain.

I totally agree, she was picked because she is a woman. What happened to all the GOP talk of how Obama lacked experience, then they go and pick a hockey mom? They lost me. I was going to vote for McCain because I do think he does have more experience than Obama, but this latest trick with adding Palin is appallin. I'm back with Obama now. She truly lacks experience, being governer of Alaska for two years does not qualify you to be president. What if McCain, God forbid were to die in office, is she going to be breastfeeding her youngest while meeting with leaders of the world? I'm sorry this is just not sitting right with me. I can think of one better choice if it has to be a woman, what about Mrs. Dole? Palin needs to focus on her family and wait till the kids are older to pursue this...just my opinon as a mom of three.

With that attitude we should never let a women in office, from a council person to the president.

Isn't the intention of picking a running mate to pick someone that will help the campaign? Who cares if it's someone who owns a uterus or *gasp* someone with more political experience than the presidential candidate? Why is McCain any different than any other candidate past or present? If you look past her gender, I think she actually rounds out the "package" quite nicely and she does have more experience (especially hands-on) than Obama.

Buzzymom, way to set back the women's movement 30 yrs. I guess mothers have no place in politics or any other high-powered job... and fathers have no business staying home and raising kids either. Right? Good grief. Sorry moms. Time to kick your shoes off and get back in the kitchen where you belong.

I think Palin is more likely to win over social conservatives (who would have voted Republican anyway, but weren't exactly excited about the prospect of a McCain campaign presidency before Palin joined the ticket) than Hillary's supporters. Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have nothing in common beyond their double X chromosomes. As a woman and a liberal, I'm insulted by the suggestion that I should vote McCain simply because his running mate has a uterus. I don't think Palin's gender, her family responsibilities or her pregnant teenage daughter make her unqualified to lead, but her resume doesn't impress me.

I hope the story about her trying to ban books from the public library because they contained "adult language" is untrue. It seems like a small issue next to things like the war in Iraq and the nationwide economic downturn, but it does speak to character.

Apparently you know nothing about her. She has more experience than Obama, and has gotten more done. I cannot believe you would dismiss a woman because she has kids at home. From her record, does she look like she would stay home and breastfeed her kid rather than work??? Honestly, if you believe she was picked because she was a woman, then Obama was picked because he is black. End of story. You CANNOT have it both ways, especially since she has far more experience than Obama.

Yeah, but not really surprising. Most liberals I have met are very hypocritical. I just want one to prove me wrong....

Well, at least you're not voting for her because you are not impressed with her record (for whatever reason). That's at least a valid reason not to vote for her. And you are right about her winning over social conservatives. She has won me over; McCain is a bit too socially liberal for me, but I don't like complete socialism either, so I wasn't sure who to vote for until she came along.

so how come palin faithful are not commenting on her attempted recall petition when she was mayor of wasille or whatever its called? or how she left the town 20 mil in debt when she assumed the governors title? its funny that she is considered americana, yet somehow barack who worked his whole life to help the poor and less fortunate&didnt take the easy road, who worked in the illinois senate, then on to the united states senate, all of which took years btw to accomplish. Barack has ideals that will lead us out of the funk we have been in, ideals that will finally lift us back up to where we belong. 1st thing, universal healthcare: there is not reason why ANY american should be denied health coverage. if canada, england, france, germany, he...ll even costa rica, can provide its citizens with medical care than so can we. what a bunch of shull bit the idea of "big government" blah blah blah, look what the hands off approach republicans have brought with them the last 30 yrs (minus clintons 2 terms), of corporations, big oil&big insurance has done to the united states. do people in france or england or canada have to lose their homes because big insurance denies life threatening surgical procedures so they have to sell just so a loved one can survice, and are imore concerned with profit margins than citizens lives? no they do not, and neither should we.

why do americans accept lesser quality of life than say italians, or germans or frenchmen? because our goverment doesnt work for us, we work for them. in other countries, politicians know that if they dont take care of the people then they will be out of a job. but here in america, we are divided on stupid issues like abortion, gay rights etc. over there they dont have the religious zealots that we have here, they dont think piss...ant people are supposed to be God's representatives here on earth&as such they try to pass off their own morals on everyone else which is retarded.

all these divisive issues like palins daughter being pregnant, personal attacks on Barack saying he is a celebrity, etc are distracting Americans from the fact that our government has failed us. imo health care, utilities, education, police, military even oil should be socialized. i know that is a bad word to the right, but think about it. when profit is the motivation behind any vital service, then the peoples interest are not served, just shareholders&CEOs profits are what is important. how many americans have to die because they cant afford health insurance before its not Me Me Me, instead its We We We. how about we rise together, and fall together. whats so hard about that? oh and dont say "well i dont want my taxes paying for somebody else who dont work, i care for my family and thats it" that is so stupid. my taxes&my families taxes help provide education, police, fire& other services for not only our children, but my neighbors&communities kids already so that argument goes right out the window. the problem is $$$&lobbyists need to get booted out the door in washington, let the peoples needs be met cuz we are what make this country run, not politicians.

listened for, they cannot be heard;looked for, they cannot be seen; felt for, they cannot be touched: old ninja proverb
