PAUL - The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child. Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.

Alert | Ok so I took a minute and read up on this and if you liberals are going to run with this story you shoud be ashamed of yourself. Are you saying that Palin's young baby actually belongs to her 17 year old daughter as suggested in this article?

That is pretty bad to start bagging on a minor child of the candidate because you can't find anything on the candidate herself. Politically this is going to backfire and make the Dems look like mean bullys. I'm not worried about that, I just feal sorry for the 17 year old girl and what it will do to her self esteem. | | "Knowledge is often mistaken for intelligence. Alert | I guess Governor Palin figures her daughter can quit school and watch her daughter and grand baby.... It's all good! They really are a reflection of their constituents! I wish them all good health!

Alert | | It makes me smile to see Dem's taking the "holier than thou" approach. You make it sound as if Republicans are some how dumb and more likely to have "problems". Sounds like the Republican play book from 20 years ago. You know what the Republican's learned... when you start acting better than everyone, they stop voting for you because no one likes a pompous ass. | | "Knowledge is often mistaken for intelligence. Alert | Look how low the political debate has gotten, now the left is attacking a teenage girl in order to score some sort of points against her mother. What next, the right looks for some dirt on Obama's kids. Maybe someone can find evidence that one of them cheated in school. Oops, been there, done that . That was Biden.

Alert | | According to Barack Obama she's being "punished with a baby". All kidding aside though, I think it speaks volumes of Governor Palin that her daughter is doing the responsible thing and taking care of her baby when so many choose to take the easy way out. | | "Knowledge is often mistaken for intelligence. Alert | C'mon Hastings: You are grouping the entire left together for one article? It's not like the left is nominating the author of the article or condones the story/attack. Only the right would nominate a whacko that stoops to that level........

Alert | The rumor I heard was the baby Palin was claiming as her own was actually her daughter’s the one with Down's. This is why you go through a vetting process and research your running mate and make an impulsive decision, keep your campaign folks in the dark and name some one you have only met once. The next thing I want to hear is that oil companies made a deal with McCain to choose her.

Alert | wow so the right wing who is all about attack adds&doesnt discuss the issues which actually is a plan of theirs to not talk about what their party has done horrendously wrong for the country, is now going to raise cane because someone is saying its ironic that a conservative family has a prego teen out of wedlock? it is ironic, no doubt about it. like kenmore guys statement above from grandpa mcsame illustrates, the right is known for smear adds but they dont like it when some dirt is thrown in their face when it is justifiably so.
so how is it she can run a country when she barely ran one of the smallest populated states in the union? at least Barack was helping the poor and less fortunate in Illinois before he went to washington&even though he has not had yrs&yrs of experience there, he does have real people experience having worked his way through college&turning down lucrative high paying jobs when he graduated from Harvard which i might add makes him more qualified than grandpa&palin to run a country. talk about moral high road, he was selfless&dedicated most of his adult life to helping others. cant say that about John who has hundred of lobbyists on board. what you think he isnt going to reward them&big oil if he were to get elected? ya bet your sweet keister he is, more of the same republican shull bit if barack isnt elected. basically its socialism for the rich&capitalism for the poor, rich people reap the profits&the poor are left to fend for themselves. honestly you have to be on 'roids like wompus is to vote republican. get over your hate for the gays, abortion already, the country is moving away from the religious fervor of the early to mid part of the last century and leaning more towards acceptance&tolerance towards peoples personal decisions regarding church so i think the right wing is in big trouble going forward. they rely heavily on fear&smear tactics but that stuff isnt going to work anymore. its good that palins daughter has a strong support system, dont know necessarily that they should be getting married cuz that could be bad for the couple plus the baby. becoming pregnant doesnt mean you should get married, your relationship with your SO should determine that. | | listened for, they cannot be heard;looked for, they cannot be seen; felt for, they cannot be touched: old ninja proverb

Alert | Obama - “Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.' Interesting difference in the points of view. Palin sees a baby as a blessing, Obama sees a baby as a punishment. Not my words, his words.

Welcome to politics, the children of politicians have always been in the game not just when it is a democrat attacking a republican as you would suggest. Her daughter having a kid at 17 shows that these strict conservative values are good only when it is convenient. I am glad she taught her daughter the value of abstinence.

Not true, until fairly recently the children of politicians were considered off limits. On both sides politics have gotten very ugly in the past few decades. Trashing your opponent has always been considered fair (just look at Andrew Jackson's campaign for example) but for most of the time minor children were considered off limits. Politics, like society has just gotten more coarse, and that is a shame. Just look at this forum, when we try to discuss politics in a civilized and respectable way, sooner or later someone who cannot use facts or logic to dispute a point ,will resort to invective. It is sadly the nature of out times. We fall to the lowest common denominator.

Alert | It seems to me that at least Ms. Palin has enough moxie to accept responsibility for her actions and keep her child, rather than abort it.
And as far as the insinuations go re: Mrs. Palin's youngest, you people that are promoting that theory are really a disgusting bunch. | | "The seeds of self-destruction are sown in the shallowness of your mind."

The post is about a 17 year old being pregnant, right? Is that an attack?
GuyPinestra--- What insinuations? What theory? The one comment made about the mother-grandmother, the poster stated it was a rumor.

The one comment made about the mother-grandmother, the poster stated it was a rumor. Disingenuous post. Absolutely! Nowhere did I accuse anyone of making an 'attack'. However, I stand by my statement that anyone propagating that 'rumor' is disgusting. | | "The seeds of self-destruction are sown in the shallowness of your mind."
