I hunt using only 3 toothpicks and a water balloon. Macgyver style.

Are you ready for some football?

Growing up poor has breed hatred for many political parties....

Poor? CHANGE it. If you grew up poor blame the parents who didn't try to succeed. Don't blame the government or politics.

Drummer, Drummer, Drummer....

You and I can agree on this "war" we can agree on the corrupt Bush admin. Don't blame growing up poor on the Goverment. We are pilots on how well we succeed in school. We are the pilots in the choices that we make. Sure, we live paycheck to paycheck, but I can't blame that on Government. I blame that on the choices that we make/made.

My husband came from a home where the he was fatherless at the age of eleven. They were poor, they had a tough time growing up. 4 out of 5 kids went on to graduate from College. Three of them have a bachelors degree. One just graduated from ASU with her Masters degree. My husband chose to just finish high school, we didn't make the greatest choices, but you cannot blame that on Government. It is all up to the individual that makes things happen.

We are trying to change things. I am trying to get back to school. It will be a long process. I chose to be a young mom. However, one has to make themselves better, you can't expect the President to do that for you.

I can disagree with some of the Republican platform and I can disagree with some of the Democratic platform. Too bad I just can't register independent or a Liberatarian and still vote in the Primary.

I support and I am voting for Obama, but when you post your opinions, you really make us Obama supportors look like nut jobs.

Great American story Marni. Your attitude is much more Republican (work hard to improve your own condition) that Democratic (demand that the government [tax payer] improve your condition). Good luck!

It is surprising that you, with a libertarian mind set, will be supporting Obama. I am sure that he feels his philosophy would be best for the country, but his ideas are about as far away from libertarian values as one can get.

I don't blame my life style/ or lack of on the government. I just feel that if we can get invloved with everyone else in this world, why can't  politicians be more invloved in helping it's own?

I've got an education, but wish others..including EVERYONE that is a resident of the US a chance too.

My opinions don't make me a nut job. Those that have no opinions and just let people walk all over them are the nut jobs.

While I stipulate that the cost of a college degree is extremely out of hand and just looking at it with out ant filter is very scary, EVERYONE can go to college. you just hae to know where to start. Scolarships, FAFSA, pell grants, GI bill, student loans. ANYONE can go to college, it just depends on how hard people try to find funding. I know one person who's Daddy paid for everything, and 10 years later she has a bachelors degree she doesn't use and Daddy still pays for everything. I know someone else who's mother promised her money, but did not follow through. She was a single mother, worked full time, was a full time student, fought for grants
and scolarships, finished school and makes 60k per year. She was on the deans list every semester and worked hard for it.

EVERYONE can go to college that wants to.

PS, My friend lives in AK now and LOVES to hunt and fish. Pictures of women hunting areNORMAL in Alaska. She is who Palin represents.

Yeah, everyone does have a chance. Anyone who says they can't afford it is making excuses. You can go to a public college or at least a CC and get loans, grants, etc. I graduated, and my parents pretty much paid for one semester of my books. They did what they could, and I made up the rest. Higher education is available to anyone who is ready to work. Unfortunately, some people aren't, and that's fine.

Before I condemn the practice I'd have to know the reason WHY it is being promoted. Is the wolf or bear population too high for the available habitat to sustain it? Are the wolves/bears coming into human inhabited areas and creating a danger to the citizens? These factors should be taken into account before any 'judgment' is passed.

As an example of what I mean, while living in Georgia there was an area called Red Top Mountain State Park, part of the Chattahoochee National Forest, who's population of deer had gotten so large that the habitat couldn't support them. The deer there were emaciated and all the growth in the area had been chewed to the roots. The only solution was to change the rules and allow them to be hunted, for their own good.

I'm not saying that's the case with Alaskan wolves and bears, but it IS something to be considered.

Then what's the problem? Do people think Alaska is like a summer camp where you hike a mile or two off the road and shoot these animals? So they shoot them from the air??? I know people who have shot deer from their houses (Not trailers) are they in the wrong? The deer were starving and eating the plants... are they wrong? Oh yeah, and the authorities said it was OK to thin the herd. I bet there are STILL people who would condemn someone for shooting the deer.

You can't please all of the people all of the time.

Maybe PETA (Or like group) should open a reserve in Alaska and see how they deal with the wolves.

The arial hunting is being allowed so there will be more game animals which brings people to Alaska to hunt.

Hunting an animal from a helicoptor is cowardice, plain and simple. They chase the animal (an endangered wolf) until it is too tired to run, and then shoot it. Red neck white trash cowardice. I said it. I don't mind hunting, but be a man and do it with a bow on the ground.

How do you know all the people doing this are white, first of all? And if they are, isn't that a bit racist? Also, I don't know if you read the thread, but the wolves don't seem endangered anymore, at least not in that area. The sheer amount of them is offsetting the balance of the ecosystem, which is why they have to be killed off. I don't necessarily agree with it, nor would I shoot anything, but I am pretty sure people would not be openly shooting an endangered species from the air....

Jason, what are you talking about?

Aerial hunting is for predator control, permitting state employees or licensed individuals to shoot from an aircraft for the sake of protecting "land, water, wildlife, livestock, domesticated animals, human life, or crops." (This doesn't just apply to wolves; coyotes and foxes are sometimes gunned down from aircraft, especially in Western states.) Since 2003, Alaska has issued aerial wolf-hunting permits in select areas where moose and caribou populations are particularly endangered. The idea is that by killing the predators, the airborne gunmen can ramp up the number of moose and caribou that human hunters can take home for supper.

As for the redneck comment, you are just an uninformed idiot. I would rather be a redneck than some dipstick liberal that thinks they know what is best for everyone.

I'm not a liberal, nor a die hard right wing religious right hypocrit like many I meet.  Way to stereotype, who's the idiot now?  If you sling insults prepare to get some back.

OK fine I am sorry.....geesh.....but don't you think shooting animals from a helicopter is a little extreme/pathetic/trashy? I can cut and paste stuff from the internet all day, aerial hunting goes on just for sport not just population control. I called those people rednecks, shooting from an airplane/helicopter? Really? Wow, that takes skill.  The only risk in that is falling out of the heli....lol
