AN EXCELLENT CHOICE !!!!!!

Sarah Heath Palin (born February 11, 1964) is the current Governor of Alaska, and a member of the Republican Party. She is the youngest and first female governor of Alaska. She is the Republican vice presidential candidate for the November 2008 election. Brought to statewide attention because of her whistleblowing on ethical violations by state Republican Party leaders,Ώ] she won election in 2006 by first defeating the incumbent governor in the Republican primary, then a former Democratic Alaskan governor in the general election.

On August 29, the Associated Press reported that "speculation [has] moved to [Palin as a] darkhorse" pick for the vice president running mate slot by presumptive Republican nominee John McCain.ΐ] The CNBC news service is now reporting that Palin will in fact be the GOP vice-presidential nominee.Α] She is reported to be a possible choice for the Republican Party's nomination as Vice President of the United States in the 2008 election. Formal announcement of the presumptive nominee will be made in Dayton, Ohio on August 29, 2008, by Presidential candidate John McCain. On 29 August, CNN confirmed that Palin was the running mate for Senator McCain.Β]

Oh yeah that works great! Works great for all the Dems to attack her on her lack of experience.
Is this who WE want to take over, when John McCain has a stoke in the oval office?
I understand the McCain campaign is trying to win over the Hillary vote, but come on! Couldn't  he have at least picked someone with more experience than Obama?

What does she govern in Alaska anyway? Polar bears and eskimos?

I can see her trying to "sweeten" up all the off shore drilling folks...

I think an Excellent choice.
Her experience has been as mayor, commissioner, has gone after the oil companies; has gone after corrupt Republican politicians; pushed for the Alaskan Gas pipeline; played basketball in school (a point guard), and still plays hockey.

Has 5 kids; the last had down syndrome; she refused to abort the baby

She generally travels around on commercial airlines, except for last night; but, that was an exception.

She is not afraid to got after corrupt politicians, even if they are fellow Republicans. Let's see how she handles those Washington politicans.

So drummer, you are knocking her for her lack of experience BECAUSE Obama lacks experience too? Interesting... coockoo for cocopuffs but interesting.

I fully admit I know nothing about her except that I have heard her name before and what I am reading today. She does sound like a good choice... but we'll see. You bring up "Taking over" and you think anyone in their right mind would want Biden taking over.

Why do democrats whine and whine about republicans being negative, then watch 3 days of their fellow DNC (Do Nothing Crowd) cronies bash the competition and have nothing to say?

It will be really pathetic if McCain picked her solely because she is female, and he wants the female vote. Not going to work anyways, but really offensive.

I grew up in Wasilla, AK where she was mayor. My brother has met with her several times regarding rights for people with disabilities and funding for ARC charities. From what I have seen she leans more independant then republican, is not afraid to speak her mind even if it is against party lines, and the baby with down syndrome is still less then 1 year old. She has done more for AK and has a lot more experience then Obama. When she was driving herself to work last month she was in a minor fender bender and instead of throwing her position around and asking for special treatment, she wasjust like anybody else and the person that hit her did not even know who she was until after the police got there and they exchanged information. I was still on the fence for president this morning when I woke up, but this pushed me over the side!

Palin was also instrumental in passing a "windfall tax" on big oil. omething the Federal govt cannot figure out. Gas in many of the AK villages is over $10/gln, not to mention the cost of home heating fuel. Part of the money from the windfall tax is going back to the people in AK as checks next month to assist the villagers in buying their heating fuel for the long winter. While the feds spend all year talking about what to do, she has done it and got the money to the people without using any of AK state budget money, only oil money.

She also graduated from high school and was mayor of a town of 4000 people (now it is 5500 people), the drive the city is 45 minutes on a good day. Maricopans should be able to relate a little to that.

On a side note, her dad was my 5th grade science teacher. How cool is that?

Wow!! This makes it a very interesting race. McCain has taken the "change/not from Washington" tagline from Obama. The lack of experience can be made an argument, but that only points out that she has MORE experience than the Dem's PRESIDENTIAL nominee.

It could also be argued that a women choice could be seen as pandering. That could put off many voters. She did speak of Geraldine Ferraro AND Hillary Clinton this morning. The other side is many people will see she is a mom with 5 children going through day to day challenges of most Americans. Maybe not on the same level because she is a governor, but in her experiences as serving in the PTA, councilmember, and mayor. That could show voters she IS down to earth and DOES have the experience in what matter most to Americans; children's education, changing the status quo, food and energy costs, etc.

Obama picked a VP with 35 years in Washington to address the question of inexperience. Mccain has the experience and HAS been for change in Washington. Now he picks a person for change that has fought as close to the grass roots as one can get.

It will be an interesting race. The thing I haven't heard more about is the "investigation" of her and her office. So that may become a big issue/distraction.

I haven't been Obama nor Mccain. McCain had seemed to be a footnote in the election process. Not having anything to offer that would stand out. I think he put himself back on the "electoral" map.

My answer WAS "NO" to Q#5 and Q#1.

I am ashamed of everyone here, not one person has commented on how pretty she is

But on a serious note, this is a weird pick by McCain. I know Mitt Romney has stepped on some toes during this whole process and alot of ppl thought he would have been a great choice for Vp and then groom him to be the next Presidential candidate. But this pick has it's good and bad points.

I really believe that her being a fellow 'maverick' was the first reason he looked to her. Being female is just the icing on the cake of her accomplishments. I watched her speak this morning and I really think she has great intentions in public office.
