Alert | http://blogs.reuters.com/trail08/2008/08/16/obama-says-pointed-abortion-query-above-his-pay-grade/ When asked his views on abortion he said it was above his pay grade to decide when it is ok to murder a baby. Alert | So your saying God is not "above your paygrade"? I thought you were a "gun owner clinging to your religion"...
From the non-spin I got from the actual quote.. THAT is what he was eluding to...
Obama, who strongly supports abortion rights, said: “… whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity … is above my pay grade.”
Nice spin, o' heartless one...

Alert | .. forgot to add that.. as of 2003.. only 1.4% of ALL abortions were determined to be "late-term"... i.e. after 20 weeks of gestation.. that's around 18,000 per year.. AND over 70% of THOSE were because the woman DID NOT KNOW they were pregnant...
like I tell all my pro-life friends.. if you feel that strongly about abortion.. then ADOPT.. if you don't, your not being a part of the solution... and being nothing more than a blowhard towing the religious-right line..
Sorry, my belief is that we should be doing all we can to PREVENT unwanted pregnancies... if that makes me a liberal so be it..

Alert | | I think you may very well be right. He will be elected with record high turnout for young voters and record low turnout overall. He'll be there 4 years making us all hate corporations and feel for the plight of the poor. We'll all get tired of a bad economy and feeling sorry for ourselves and we'll vote him out in 2012. Then the GOP can spend the next 8 years trying to fix all the problems caused in only 4. | | "Knowledge is often mistaken for intelligence. Alert | Wow what a bunch of psychos. Yeah determining when life begins is above EVERYONE'S pay grade, unless your job is "god".
And so freakin' what! We get to determine when life ends without issue, unless the life happens to be that of someone else's unborn (read that as "not yet proven to be a living breathing human being") fetus. For example this country allows a death penalty. Any blindly republican spin spewers feel like arguing against the death penalty? We also, in many states, allow people to kill someone who is invading their home. Any mindless R-flavored zombies care to argue against the sanctity of the 2nd amendment? I have absolutely no way to understand how the party that typically supports and rejoices the right to self defense including lethal force AND the right of the government to determine that a specific criminal's actions warrant death would also somehow object to a woman deciding to terminate a blob of cells that MIGHT MAYBE POSSIBLY be born one day.
By the way I absolutely am voting for Obama this election despite the fact that the Dems will suddenly feel empowered enough to try to take my guns. Ain't gonna happen, but they'll try. Hell they still ain't got 'em from Charlton's cold dead hand... And a whole bunch of other crap is gonna crop up that just shouldn't be, but Obama beats the heck out of 4 more years of GWB. | | | |

Alert | | Wow nice comparison there. Hmm defenseless baby vs cold blooded killers on death row. Your views on morality and human life are so skewed it is sickening. I whole-heartedly agree with you on this jhall. Pro-choice what a hypocritical term, the baby doesn't get much of a choice. And Obama is spineless for not taking a stand either way, typical politician.

Alert | Couple of things:
1. Saying that it is above his pay grade is an easy out. We all know where Barrack 'Don't say my middle name you racist' Obama stands on this issue. Just because he didn't answer the question in front of a crowd that would have booed him if he explained his views, doesn't mean that he doesn't have an opinion. He views and votes from being an state congressmen to being a Senator, to his "I don't want my daughters to be punished with a baby speech," Barrack 'Don't say my middle name' Obama is very clear on where he is on abortion and when he feels a life begins.
2. Don't think that we are making an opinion on God's behalf, or proclaiming that we are acting on His behalf. We are making a choice that we believe God will find correct. I for one wouldn't want to stand before him and explain why I ended an innocent life. Would you? What is the problem with erroring on the side of caution when it comes to a childs life? You took the actions to before pregnant, time to be an adult and face the reality of what you did.
3. TurnsWithBlinkerUser, we can debate the Death Penalty any time. Start a new thread.
4. Here is where I don't understand liberals. You believe in the right of a women to choose after she has made the choice to have sex and she knows the consequences, at the cost of a live of an innocent child, then on the flip side, will march and protest for the life of a criminal, to make sure that a convicted murder has a shot at life? Why do liberals not care about a child's life, but will seem to give it all to save a murderer? No one can ever answer that question directly, because they don't have an answer. Anyone care to try? I would love to make sense of the position you guys take.
5. TurnsWithBlinkerUser: Just a tip for you. George W Bush isn't running for re-eletion. The candiates are Barrack 'Don't say my middle name' Obama and John McCain. O Rly?
1. Being charged and being convicted are 2 different things...
2. not ALL states do this.. Alert | Posted By Reagan on 08/18/2008 10:24 AM 4. Here is where I don't understand liberals. You believe in the right of a women to choose after she has made the choice to have sex and she knows the consequences, at the cost of a live of an innocent child, then on the flip side, will march and protest for the life of a criminal, to make sure that a convicted murder has a shot at life? I don't believe it's right to take a life -- any life. For this reason, I am opposed to the death penalty.
However, I also do not believe (as McCain does) that life begins at the "moment of conception." (If McCain truly believes that, then he should be opposed to the morning after pill and IUD's, which prevent a fertilized zygote -- life!, according to McCain and many conservatives -- from implanting in the uterus.) So to answer your question, some liberals (such as myself) can reconcile the two positions because they don't believe that abortion costs a life at all, whereas they know that capital punishment does. That said, while I do consider myself pro-choice, I would choose to "err on the side of caution," as another poster put it. I just don't feel that I'm qualified to make that determination for others, much less support legislation that would do so. | | I used to be Chelle.
