Alaska has an estimated reserve of 30 Billion barrels of oil and vast natural gas reserves.  Do you think Alaska will secede from the union to break the Democrat controlled Congress' grip over the state's energy resources?

Doupt it, I do think it will become a area of interest and attack if the Dems have there way though.

They can join with Canada and become the new worldpower.  Canada has huge oil/natural gas reserves as well as diamonds.

what a waste of time..we need to work on alternatives to this instead of drilling up every last drop of oil we can find!!!

I agree jeeptj02------we need to forget about this oil crap and focus on alternative fuels. We're only going to have another crisis when all the off shore drilling oil runs out anyway.

Everything I read indicates that the alternative energy you speak of is at least 25 years away ... or at least that many years before there will be enough of it to make a difference.

For the next 25 years we'll need to keep as much of our oil money here in the USA if we intend to have the money to pay for alternative energy research.

I don't understand why people act like we have to make a choice between drilling and alternative energy. What we need to do is aggressively pursue both!

That was the Old Testament version.  In the Book of Mormon, he wore Crocs.

Jason & Drummer,

It may be fun to joke about giving up your autos, wearing Birkenstocks,  walking or riding bicycles everywhere, but being forced to do any of them won't be!

Giving up your car wouldn't work here.  Phoenix doesn't have the mass transit infrastructure.

According to Jason and Drummer, mass transit isn't needed.  Just put on your sandals or hop on your bicycle.  What can be simpler and cheaper than that?

I can joke all I want, Mr Cactus, because I work 1 mile from my house and my wife works from home.  You're part native american, don't you have a horse?...j/k.

Maybe americans wouldn't be so obese had we been forced to find other means of transportation long ago...

Precisely! Let's drill while we use OUR CURRENT oil reserves so that, in how ever many years it takes to "run out" of our oil, we have refined this new oil. And, all the while, continue to pursue alternative energy. We can have it all. What's wrong with that? If you want to bike to work  you're certainly free to do that. If I want affordable American made gas then I should be able to have that option too.
