http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Marriage_Amendment

I am trying to get in some extra credit for my POS101 class.

  1. What are your views on the ammendment?
  2. Do you feel that the Govt is treading on same sex attracted peoples natural right to be with who they want to be with?
  3. Do you feel that its a form of prejudice for the Govt to reconise one partnership and not the other based on gender?
  4. Do you see not allow same sex marriage as a civil liberty issue?

Of course I know this will be heated, but its a hot topic that tends to boil peoples blood. But I would like to see others POVs on this issue, like it or not we will all have to deal with it, so we cannot just sweep it under the rug.

Let them get married, who cares. People should worry about their own lives and behavior, before they start impressing their views on others. I don't see a problem with it.

What two consenting adults want to do is not my business and should not be the governments business.

Who cares who someone esle marries?  Its not like they are asking to marry 2 or 3 other people.

They are gay, not mormons.

Mormons do not practice polygamy... If it were natural for gays to breed then they would be able to.

They aren't asking to breed, just to be married.

I doubt the gays could defile 'the sacred institution' of marriage more than straight people have.  What with marriages that last hours, it is kind of a joke anyway.

OK, this will get interesting.

1.  It seems like a silly distraction during difficult times.  Looking for an amendment seems like it is intended to distract you from the issues that have more affect on everyone.

2.  No more than society has as a whole.

3.  The Government?  No.  But as the government is made of individuals - each with his or her own agenda and beliefs - yes there is an effort in that direction by some.

4.  I'm not sure.  As far as I'm concerned, the legal marriage issue is about a legal contract, and the benefits that each group realizes.  Without beneficiary and tax benefits, what is the difference between a gay couple and a straight couple?

Now, what I would propose is a change in legal terminology.  I support the idea of gay couples getting the same benefits as the straight couples.  After all, they pay into the same system.  Most of the debate seems to come from the description of the word marriage.  So, leave the bible thumpers with their word as a description of a union between a man and a woman, and allow a legal union with all the benefits for gays and call it something else.

The problem comes from people not taking marriage seriously. I love my wife and am happy with her. People have turned into these selfish instant gratification creatures loosing all sense of self respect. Gay marriage is nothing more then one step closer to the destruction of family and culture.

That is such a generalization.  I too am married and love my husband very much;  however, I have know a lot of hetrosexual couples who do not take their vows seriously, they are unfaithful and unreliable.  Some also think that  it is their job to repopulate the earth and then not take care of them.... That sounds much more like the destruction of family and culture to me... IMHO

You don't think both are? Isn't it funny how you need a license to own a dog, but not to have a child?

The destruction of family and culture in the USA is going to come from religious intolerance, materialistic greed, apathy towards government, and uneducated masses......

Well, so far the divorce rate for same-sex marriage is statistically better than opposite sex marriage.. lol..

Those stats are flawed, being that they can only get married in two states.

It was a joke jhall..lol..

I imagine given time, the stats will be up there with the religious "man & woman" marriages...

You are one step closer to making me puke. I thought opinions like yours were just a stereotype/fictional....I was sadly mistaken.

Maybe these gay/lesbians do take it seriously? Don't you think if they didn't , they wouldn't get married. Speaking of serious, let us not forget that more than HALF of heterosexual marriages end in divorce. How's that for serious??
