Alert | Maybe so, AZ Dreaming. But he won't hold the record as the worst president for very long, not if Obama is elected. Just recently in a campaign speech in Oregon, Obama declared "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times . . . and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK." He then added it's not going to happen under his leadership. WOW! Rationing our food, gasoline and heating fuels!! The Bush administration is looking better already! During a Congressional hearing where members of Congress grilled oil company executives, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) made the following statement: "This liberal will be all about socializing, uh, uh .... would be about .... basically taking over and the government running all of your companies" Double WOW! Nationalizing our oil companies! If Obama and his followers are successful in this endeavor, the Bush administration will at this point be out of the most hated race.

Alert | If it does come down to rationing these things it will be because of Bush's 8 years of burying his head in the sand and not taking the right actions during his 2 terms. You are right - the Democrats are going to inherit a real MESS to deal with from the Republicans. It took 8 years to get here and it will take several more years to get us out of our problems. If regulating and rationing become the only solutions don't try to put this all on Obamma. Put the blame where blame is due. | | Senior Member Joined July, 2005

Alert | | Phew! Good thing the Dems took over the House & Senate last go around 'cause they've really changed things up, right?! Seriously though, the lesson here is that no one person and no one party will make a huge difference in the end. It will always appear that whoever takes office will be inheriting a mess, whether it's known at that time or the facts come out later. I think both parties have their heads up their rears.

Alert | What ever happened to positive politics. If a candiate came out from either party and rather than run the anti-Bush or anti-Democrat or anti-Republican ticket, and instead said things like this:
We can and will without question win in Iraq and Afganistan, We have a slower economy, but we are America and a little slow down isn't going to keep us from being the best in the world, because we are, Whether its the economy, technology, innovation, development, the military, or any other topic, America is number one and always will be, etc, What happened to national pride? What happened to a leader uplifting this country rather than sit and dwell on all the negative? If we could get a leader like that to run, he or she would have 80% of the vote no matter what their positions on anything. | | Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.

Alert | | Totally agree, Reagan. Unfortunately, as I see it, those people are too wise to step foot into politics. In addition, the public has little or no respect for those in power anymore. My grandparents are probably rolling in their graves over all the bashing on all sides: Dems, Republicans and the public. It is possible to respectfully disagree with a leader's politics, but many seem incapable of that these days. Even if I were remotely qualified, you couldn't pay me enough to subject myself or my family to all that nastiness.

Alert | | American pride turned into "down with democrats". If you are against the war you must be a terrorist. You are either with us or against us. This whole mentality has been boosted by the Bush administration. Instead of coming together he has everyone rallied up to fight amongst each other.

Alert | Agreed.... The bi-partisan politics is sickening. I see hate speech from both sides (a lot more from the conservatives). Why do we have to be #1 in everything? I'm all for national pride and there is no other country I would rather live than the US. However, if there is a citizen of the UK that believes their country is the greatest, I am fine with that. Their is a difference between nationalism and fascism. Our economy is not always going to be the best in the world. Let's be real. We need to be the best we can be. We need to invest in our future. We need to stress the importance of economy, innovation, military, etc.. China is slowly taking us over. They have the right idea. They come to the US to get an education and go back to China to utilize it. We are slowly becoming a servant economy. A servant economy will not be #1. We will not always be number 1. Empires rise and fall. If history repeats itself, that is a fact. Look at the Romans, Greeks, etc..

Alert | | My point wasn't that we will always be number one, and everyone else takes a back seat. My point was to have the pride that we can and should be number one, rather than play the 'here is the top 10 reasons this country sucks, and it all Bush's fault' card. | | Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.

You are really short sided if you think the first negative campaign/adminstration is Bush. Is your hatred so deep that you can't think about anything other than Bush=Bad????

I am not saying he was the first one with a negative campaign. What I am saying is that he took it to the next level. He capitalised on fear mongering and it worked very well. Karl Rove is quite the political genious when it comes down to it.
