With the world wide price of food increasing 55% in the last year, in large part caused by OPEC's greed (and increased demand in India and China), the World Food Program has asked for increased donations in order to  prevent starvation in several areas. The US, by far the largest donor, provides about two billion dollars a year. Oil rich Saudi Arabia has pledged nothing. In 2007 OPEC donated $1.5 million, about one minute and ten seconds of its $675 billion in oil revenue in 2007. Way to step up OPEC!

How do you connect OPEC greed and rising food prices? Sure it costs more to ship the food but farmers using grains for ethanol production instead of food is having a far greater effect on food prices. Way to be biased against someone because of your distaste for Islamic nations.

caveman, caveman, caveman, there you go again. Where do I start? Lets take your points one at a time. First. I do not ,as you claim, have a distaste for Muslim nations. I have a distaste for Muslim terrorists (and I sure hope that you do also). They are not the same thing. You seem to have a predilection for making unfounded assumptions about me and putting words in my mouth. It is mildly irritating but also a little amusing as you are so predictable. Second, OPEC nations are not exclusively Muslim. Angola, Nigeria,Ecuador,Venezuela, and Gabon are all members. Bolivia, Brazil, and Canada have been invited to join.Third, Rising oil prices impact food in many ways other that just transportation. The fuel used to make fertilizer and to run farm machinery are just two examples. Basic economics 101, as the cost of producing goods (food) go up, so will the cost of the goods. Third, as the cost of oil goes up it becomes more and more profitable to raise crops for fuel rather than food. so as you should be able to see ,OPEC's dramatic price increase have greatly increased the price of food world wide. Just this week there were food riots in Egypt and their OPEC neighbors have done nothing to help.

Why should OPEC help? Why should they be forced into something they don't want to do?

See, you did it again. You just can't help yourself, can you? When did I say that OPEC should be forced to do anything? I do feel that they should donate some of the 100s of billions they have made by raising oil prices to the people who may starve as a result.

Nice contradiction. Stay off the sauce please, you are making no sense here.

It is funny how some people what to tax the rich in this country and give it to the poor but when it comes to the OPEC countries some how they don't have to share their wealth.

What contradiction? Saying that they should do something is not forcing them to do so. Just as saying that you should not insult people you disagree with is not forcing you to debate in a  civil and adult manner.
