I have shakey reservations about a guy that demands more than everyone else.  Maybe a sandbox outside of Global will help in the future, full of video and voice data toys so he in not intimidated.  Those who are silent are usually full of revenge at any unknown moment.

I don't question Carl's absence from this forum at all. It's a matter of principle for him, and whether you agree with him or not, he's standing by what he feels is right. I respect that. Sometimes what you feel is right is not consistent with what you'd like to do. In those cases, what's right should prevail regardless the cost.

Carl is available elsewhere and I have seen him campaigning around town.

I have to support Carl also. He is willing to risk damage to his campaign rather than compromise his values. It is a shame to lose Carl on this site, but I respect the decision he made. It shows us that he is about more than just being elected. Go research what Carl is all about. I think you'll find that he looks at all sides before he takes a position on any topic.

On a local level, I don't see why that would matter in the least. We are looking for the best candidates, not the best party. It isn't like the Dems are promising one thing and the Republicans are touting another down here. I would prefer that we not know what party any of them would align with, and just vote for the person based on how well we think they will represent us on local issues.

I agree with azcarcarrier. Dietrich could be a timebomb. Too risky.

I will be voting for Carl Dietrich without any reservations.  However, the person who wanted to know whether he was Republic or Democrat is not out-of-line.  True this is a city council seat, but knowing which party a candidate is a member of gives the public an idea of how they might lean in voting on issues.

NY2Copa, AZ Dreaming, the municipal elections are non-partisan elections. It's a better evaluation of the candidate to see where they stand on the local issues rather than a national party platform.

I don't reside in the city limits so I won't be voting in the municipal election. If I were voting, I would vote for Carl Diedrich and Marvin Brown.

What about those two candidates makes them your favorite?  Are you for the annexation of the area you live in so you can officially join the party?

The annexation area has changed. I think the new one makes a lot more sense because it's primarily the economic corridor along 238 and the area north of Bowlin Road. Of course, that's up to the people who live there. It's much less residential and I think that the impact to the existing culture as well as the demand on City services would be much less.

As far as the candidates, I believe that both represent the positive change that's needed. There is a lot of other criteria that makes them better in my opinion, but positive change would be the primary reason.

I'll be honest, I will not be voting. I haven't really seen much of a difference between candidates and I don't think I really know what each candidate brings to the table. It is easy to make promises while campaigning and to promise change, but putting those changes into action is a whole other bag of chips. I feel for anyone who gets elected because no matter who is on the council, they will face a major uphill battle in this town. Good luck to those running.

I respect a person's choice not to vote just like I respect their choice of who to vote for. Nevertheless, and even though we probably don't agree on all of the candidates you would vote for, you should still vote. You sound informed. It wouldn't take long to read through the candidates web sites. There are so many people who don't vote - many out of apathy and others out of frustration - that it's really hard anymore to change the status quo.

A good rule of thumb - if you like the way things are going in town vote for incumbents . If you do not like the direction in which the town is going "throw the rascals out".

Once in office, candidates will not be able to pick and choose which media they will speak with or send press releases to. Sheriff Joe tried to freeze out the West Valley View because he didn't like a headline on an editorial they published. He refused to send them any more news. Guess what? The paper sued and won. Public officials cannot ignore one media outlet and respond to others. So maybe certain candidates might want to start practicing that before taking office, because they cannot continue to withhold information if elected. If they do, they will be setting the city up for another law suit. Don't get me wrong. I am not speaking for 85239. I have no idea if they would sue. I am just saying ... there is precedent. The court ruled that Arpaio could not put his personal need to "punish" a particular newspaper above the public's right to know.

According to the second article, the sheriff violated the readers' Constitutional rights, not just those of the publisher of the newspaper. In essence, the court said the readers' right to know supercedes personal vendettas.

Carl, you might want to take note.

There is no requirement to participate on forums. They don't count as "media" with a right to know. But the news side is totally separate, and declining to comment is a whole other matter.

I can't agree with that. That is too broad a statement. There are several factors to why things may not be going well in town. By voting for someone just because they are not an incumbent you are asking for problems. I want legitimate, qualified people. Just because your nam eis not Kelly Hadaad that doesn't make you qualified.
