Fellow forum key thumpers,

NOW is the time to take action or stop complaining!  The Maricopa City Council and staff will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Global Water Resources Center, 22590 N. Powers Parkway, to review the Capital Improvement Plan and discuss how it affects the operating budget.

Based on articles seen recently, it looks like PR&L is last on the totem pole!  We CAN'T have that!  If you want an aquatic center, a skate park, a dog park, a library, etc. get to this meeting and let city council know about it.

Let's overwhelm them with our opinion!  Come on!  Put your action where your fingers are.  It's a Saturday, so no reason to complain that you can't because of work.  It's first thing in the morning, so it won't ruin your Saturday.  No excuses!

I'll be there and speaking out!  Let's go!

crazyforcopa - you are aware people work on Saturday, so please keep you comments about everyone being able to attend in perspective. Since our council has gotten us into such hot water, we will have to see some signficant service cuts, losses of porjects such as new or expanded parks, etc. Poor management has lead us down this road. I again find it interesting that the council gives the public less than two days notice on something this important. They just can't get it right anyway they go. Especially considering all of the promises they have made to various consituents in getting support in the past.

I also encourage as many to attend as possible - and just remember, the ultimate solution is CLEAN THE SLATE in '08!

PS - I certainly understand there are many people that work on weekends, and after 5:00 pm weeknights, so if you cannot attend, send your comments to the council beforehand via email.

No offense, and I am someone who values parks and uses Pacana on a regular basis, but if there is a budget problem Parks and Recreation may have to take a funding hit, projects may have to be delayed, that just the way it is. Considering how much the city was depending on future growth to fund all these great new projects, and we all know now the growth is not going to be coming, you might have to face the reality that all non essential city services may face budget cuts.

Thanks,
Higgs

Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. They proceed by strict logic, eliminating any appeal to the emotions. Socialism, on the contrary, works on the emotions, tries to violate logical considerations by rousing a sense of personal interest and to stifle the voice of reason by awakening primitive instincts.

There shouldn't be a budget problem, quit paying all these fools huge severance packages when they get fired from working at the city........if you get fired it is usually because you obviously can't do your job!

JasonY - Obviously the people who got severance packages could do their job, unless you are telling me that our Council is so inept that it took them five years to figure out that someone could not do their job. When I hire people, I can figure that out in a few days, not years. That is the whole point of the severance. Our City leaders did not handle the situation properly, and as a result, could lead to lawsuits against the city. Our council has got to go, to make room for people who care about this community.

Severance packages are a waste of our tax dollars, end of story. You must work for the city. And yes the council is inept. They are doing a real bang up job with this city. The job growth is enormous, the houses are selling like crazy, big business is just dying to be here, current businesses are flourishing...........lol

gilbertglcn, aren't you tired of the excuse that people can't make their comments public as a city council meeting? There is always an excuse, can't make a week night meeting, can't make a Saturday meeting, can't make the work session, can't make the regular session, etc.

If you really want to make a change, you do it personally, and get the public on your side to speak out!

I really think it's only an excuse and basically most don't want to go public. They'd rather just complaing after the fact.

HiggsBoson, it's not a matter of budget, many things can fit into the budget. It's a matter of priority. What department gets priority for capital funds? Recreation, Safety, or ED?

I agree with the article written on 85239 and believe that safety is up to speed, ED needs some help, but recreation will draw new residents and will help feed the incentive for ED. That's why I think more recreational choices should get the priority.
