Vote for MARVIN L. BROWN for CITY COUNCIL on March 11th.  Here are a few reasons why:

Prior Political Experience:  22 years Precinct Delegate to Democractic National Conventions;Michigan Representative to the McCarthy/Kennedy New Democractic Coalition; Co-Chairman of the Robert F. Kennedy for President Committee in the State of Michigan; Administrative Assistant to Chief of Police, City of Detroit; Administrative Assistant to the Speaker of the House, State of Michigan; Gubernatorial Appointment-Director of Urban Investment, State of Michigan Banking Commission; Director of the Poverty Program, City of Detroit; Economic Development Consultant to two City Council persons, City of Detroit.  I was Director of Community Development, City of Highland Park, Michigan.

In additional to the above-referenced political experience, I have considerable experience in the private sector:  Executive Director, Greater Detroit Alliance of Business; Chairman of the Board, Detroit Non-Profit Housing Corporation; President of the Board of the Travelers Aid Society of Detroit; Chairman of the Board, Michigan Unemployment Agency for Non-Profits; Board Member Bank of Lansing; Executive Director of Urban Investments; COMAC Corporation, which was a bank holding corporation.

My philosophy of Good Government is that *Transparency* is a word that has become very popular.  Whether we are talking about the need for transparency * when World Com, Enron and other companies were robbing their stockholders and employees, or transparency when your government representatives lie and mislead.  There must be openness and honesty for the common good.  Good government for many years has been the jargon of the municipal reform movement.  Good government meant government that was honest, impartial, and efficient.  Good government should be democractic; concerned with needs and wishes of the low-income and low status elements of the community as much as the middle-class and wealth.  Good government requires a political diagnostic check-up which reveals any and all warts that exist in city government.

The candidates that are willing to conduct the business of the government in an open forum get my support and vote. For too long many of our city officials have stated that they cannot reveal certain things, when in actuality, they simply will not reveal the information. As the most recent example of this, reorganizing an organization is not a personnel action, it is an organizational action that should rightly occur AFTER public discussion. Reorganization is not something a new city manager, with less than two months on the job does by himself with no input from the public.
I liked the third paragraph of the above statement, as regardless of whether or not I philosphically align myself with Marv Brown, if his is willing to conduct the business of the government in public, willing to tell us why he supports or does not support certain actions, that gets my support and thanks as a member of the public!

If you wanted to be the City Manager you should have applied for the job.

Thanks,

Higgs

Socialism, on the contrary, works on the emotions, tries to violate logical considerations by rousing a sense of personal interest and to stifle the voice of reason by awakening primitive instincts.

Unfortunately, I would bet that 80% of people in Maricopa don't care about the election and have no idea about the things that have happened recently. I personally watched as someone filled out their mail-in ballot by saying "...that name sounds good, I recognize that name, and I think I'll vote for that name. Done."

"Transparency" doesn't mean a public meeting on every decision that gets made at city hall.

Thanks,
Higgs
