Wish I had known, too. Is it the same age bracket as the fall. I have a nephew that would have loved that.

Changing lives one diaper at a time since 1993.

Maricopa Youth football should be getting organized to run its next season not engaging in another season. The coaches that have been involved have not been able to teach the kids the fundamentals of the game. My son plays in the Valley and we have played MYF teams for 3 years and it has always been a disaster for the kids in Maricopa, they are not even competitive, the scores are terrible. The coaches are not well versed in football so the kids do not get what they need to be competitive. I don't know who is running the league but the focus should be on coaching not 8 man football.

The Maricopa Youth Football organization has seen many changes over recent months. It is not the same organization as last season. We have elected all new board members and plan to make significant changes to the structure and the operations within the league. We plan to stay committed to our community and to our sponsors to provide a safe and fun outlet for our community’s children.

Board meetings are held every 3rd Sunday of the month at Maricopa’s Chamber of Commerce. Please feel free to join us. We welcome suggestions (they can be dropped into our suggestion box), and will review them at our board meetings.

Maricopa Youth Football is a non-profit organization. As a community member, please remember that all of our coaches are volunteer mom and dads. Our volunteers give their precious time to help the children in our community. If anyone feels that there is a void and would like to make a significant change, volunteers are absolutely welcomed and encouraged. We look forward to working side-by-side with anyone who wants to make a positive change for our children.

Hmm.... "NOT" the same as last season. "we plan to stay committed"... So are you implying the previous members were not committed to the community or the league? I take offense to those little statements. Come on now. you have 3 new executive board members, 2 of which were already involved heavily from the previous year. What's so different? I am anxious to see what "improvements" are made to the quality of the program. I wonder if you will be working within the by laws of the league or if they'll be overlooked and bypassed to change the structure and operations. Talk is cheap but actions speak volumes. Hope that it is actually continuing to move in a positive direction given all the negative that was brought upon the league last season. Good luck as I know you'll all need it.

RVplus3,

Aren't you the one who promoted this organization in the first place? Seems to me you are a little disgruntled based on the fact that you "are no longer part of the organization". Maybe you are one of the changes that are being made to improve this league?

I agree that residents should become more active in areas that they feel are struggling. This city is still young. It needs people to step up and lead our young. Maybe there would be less gang activity if kids got involved in sports. I sure would hate to see such a positive outlet be ruined just because someone's pride was bruised.

What our children need are strong positive role models and based on my research, it appears that this is what the league is aiming for. My child was part of the league last year, and I witnessed the challenges that were faced; however, I do see some positive people stepping up and will continue to keep my child in this program. I have to say that I am not the only parent who feels this way. I have met some fantastic parents within this community who care enough to support a local league. As a resident, I want to see our community grow; however, it can't produce positive children without the support of positive role models. I can't say that I am surprised. This blog is filled with mostly negative comments. I think it's time to take some of those lemons being thrown around and turn them into lemonade. I have said my piece. I do not care to argue with anyone here. I just think that if your feelings are this strong, then step up to help OUR children.

Did I promote this organization in the first place, I sure did. Do I still support them, sure I do. My complaint was the wording that to me implied that the previous "board" was not committed to the community or the league. I put 3 years into the league whole heartedly as any volunteer should. Disgruntled ? Not at all. Concerned that the league continues to move in a positive direction, yes. Was I removed from my position, nope. I made the decision not to run again for my own personal reasons. I will admit that I do feel a bit "lost" since football was such a big part of my families life for the last 4 years. (perhaps that is where the "bruised pride" your speaking of is coming from) I wish the league much success. In fact I was speaking directly with the league president just about an hour ago about this.

I am happy to hear that parents are finally starting to step up and become involved, as that was not the case during my involement. I have also met some great people in the community. I have also met some not so great people as well.

The point in my original post was that its a bit harder than it seems and to be prepared for a bumpy ride, perhaps I didn't make that totally cut and dry, my bad.

I hope your child enjoys the program and learns the game of football !!
