The Red Sox, however, enjoy a 2 game lead over the Angels in the ALDS, with Manny hitting a 3 run homer in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. GO RED SOX!!! Yeah, baby! *smile*

Glad to see another team who thinks it can buy the championship is ousted like the chumps that they are! Skanks choke again! I despise all NY and Chicago teams. If baseball had a salary cap structure, their teams would be cellar dwellars 4 life!

They are who we thought they were!

Really PKMET?? You really think that the Sox and Yanks would be cellar dwellers with no cap?
Let's see, how much did all of that Yankee spending really help them? The guys making the most $$$ produced the least in the post season (A-Rod, Jeter, Mussina, Clemens). The guys that played well (Cano, Phil Hughes) are not making crazy money! I agree with you that a cap might help MLB to be more competitive but just because there is a cap it doesn't mean that those teams at the top will suck and those at the bottom will be good. Ownership still has to have a desire to win. IF the cap was 50 Million there would still be teams spending 15 million. Those that spend the 50 and spend it wisely will be the good teams. The problem with the Yankees is not how much they spend but how they spend it. The Red Sox spend almost as much but have made better decisions --- yanks took Pavano, Sox took Beckett, for example.
Everyone gets caught up in the number, if that was the case the Rockies and Dbacks would not be preparing for a series right now.

The Yanks may not be cellar dwellers every year, but they certainly wouldn't enjoy their current run of regular season success. They have been in the post season evey year since 1995 (averaging 98 wins/yr). Do you believe that would be the case if baseball had an NFL type salary cap? Before that, you had to go back to 1981 to see them in the post season. What happened in the mid 90's? MLB added the divisional series and the Yankees started going on a spending spree.
The interesting thing is that everyone talks about how great it would be to see the Indians (#23 in salary) and the Rockies (#25 in salary) in the World series to show that money isn't the only thing, but if the Redsocks don't pull out game 7, then this will be one of the worst (TV) rated World Series ever. I am sure that Fox is praying for the Red Sox to pull it off, just so they will have people watching.

High I, I certainly agree that this will be the lowest rated series ever (well maybe not as bad as Indians and Marlins in 97). I agree that this would be Fox's worst nightmare. As for myself, any WS without the Red Sawx is a good one. As for your comments on the cap, I agree that the Yanks would not have the prolonged success and I think that would be a good thing for MLB as a whole, just like it has been for the NFL. Im not sure what you meant by MLB adding the div series or Yanks going on a spending spree. How did the Div series help them when they were winning so many championships in the late 90s? As for the spending spree, without looking at the numbers, I believe that the Yanks payroll was alot less when they started winning. It certainly jumped up and kept going after they lost in 2001 but back when they were winning it was without Mussina, AROD, Giambi, etc. It was guys like Paul Oneil, Brosius, Chad Curtis, David Cone..etc. Yankee spending is the reason they are not winning and I think that they are finally realizing that.
