Alert | We limited out and had them as a snack that evening
Hey Stinker - try this recipe, they're VERY good.
After soaking the breasts in salt water - marinade them in Kikkomanns Teriyaki Basting sauce about 6 hours. Take the marinaded breasts and wrap them in bacon, securing with a toothpick. Take the bacon-wrapped dove and place on BBQ, turning until bacon is done. You can brush more teriyaki sauce on as you cook.

Hubby left AZ 10 years ago and we just recently moved back and he was SOOOO excited to go hunting - I told him people get them birdies everyday on the 347...he was NOT amused

Alert | I agree Sarah. We go every year hunting dove, quail, rabbit, deer and elk when drawn. We eat what we hunt. Fish and Game does a good job adjusting the numbers to keep the levels sustainable in the wild. Without hunters keeping the wild numbers in check with what the land can support - animals can and do starve.
We also raise our own beef, pig, lamb and goat for the freezer. Our children knew growing up that steaks didn't come in little white trays. They were in the back yard and up until the day they were slaughter - they were feed, groomed and well cared for. The kids were about 4-5 years old when they went to the slaughterhouse with us to drop off the animals. My daughter wanted to see how they kill her pig. She wasn't freaked out or hysterical. We explained how they kill the animal many times prior to that day. She asked questions and accepted it as normal - because it is! Thats where meat comes from - animals.

LOL! I've been a vegetarian for 13 years and I am a female.
FYI, there are plenty of wonderful family traditions that don't involve killing. And it's not really a "sport" unless the animal is armed also.

Alert | I stand corrected and now I completely understand why you would think hunting is for rednecks...
Fritzydoodle is completely right its all about game management. That is why the state puts limits on the amount of animals killed every year. I would much rather see a dove on my BBQ then dead in the desert because it starved to death.
Again, its a circle of life thing, we eat things smaller then us and they are yummy.

If you could only see me....
My neck is NO WHERE NEAR RED!!!!!
Ok.. I need someone to hook up with for the second part of the season. I haven't been hunting in ages and I miss it. Nothing like cooking some wild bird and drinking a cold beer remembering the events of the day! | | Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem. ______________________________________ *************************************** San Diego Super Chargers! GO!!!
