For those that weren't there you missed a hell of a football game.

Maricopa 20

Estrella Foothills 13

We went up 20-0 at the half thanks to 3 TD's all contributed by Will Clemant (I think is his last name) 2 run, 1 pass

We came out a little flat in the second half and they scored two quick TD's.

It was back and forth in the 4th..(Coach you should have passed more. As much as you gave the ball to Fierros up the middle, run a play action pass off of it. The linebackers were so drawn in to shut it down you should have faked the run and threw a home run ball down the field)

Fierros had a great game...probably 120-150 yards on the ground.

Pass protection was a little weak, but can easily be fixed.

We stopped Estella on a long drive that ate up almost 4 minutes on the clock. They started at their own 10 yard line and drove down to the 2 yard line with 1 second left on the clock. They tried a QB sneak, but Fierros stripped the ball and recovered as time expired.

Players of the game-- Clemant and Fierros. Great job guys. If you weren't there you should definitely be there next game. We have a great team....a few too many penalties, but not bad for the first game. For those that support this town, why not support your high school? Football is the biggest sport in this State and we have a great opportunity to pack the house each Friday. Great job team!

By the way I think its time to put some concrete on the parking lot and also time to give the kids a REAL track instead of that dirt pit. When the wind picked up the dust was awful. Poor cheerleaders had to perform in it. City Officials, School Board....Make it happen!!

So glad they won their first game! Were the mosquitos bad? Wanted to go, but was afraid the skeeters would eat us alive!

If the team starts piling some wins, we should give them the Varsity Blues treatment and get behind these guys.

Yeah thats cool, but they might pile in the wins if we give them the "Varsity Blues" treatment first. I was surprised at the turnout we had, but when I played high school ball there were so many people the stands were packed, so people lined up all the way around the field. This is a small town and every small town in Texas, for example, closes down and everyone goes to the game. Doesn't anyone watch "Two-A-Days" on MTV? We need to give these guys that type of support. When the crowd was into it tonight, it really motivated these guys and they made some big plays. Think what they could do id twice as many people came.... Its only $5...get off the computer on Friday nights and go meet some friends at the game and cheer on the team.

I was there last night. They looked pretty good. I thought they were a little unmotivated at the start and noticed coach Brandt was a little frustrated with the intensity level. They were walking to their warm up stations and just didn't seem excited...could have been nerves I guess. But, they responded well and played a great first half. I wish they would have passed more too. The deep ball was there all night because they played a cover 3 defense a lot, meaning man on man coverage and only one safety. All Will had to do was drop back look the safety over to one side and come back to the other side and they could have had a few long balls. Will missed a few open receivers, but he should be fine. Just don't ditch the passing game so quickly. I agree play action would of worked great as I noticed the linebackers really started playing in tight when Matt was running for 6-7 yards a carry. Where were you sitting at? I'll look for you next home game.
