I saw a segment on the Today show about the off brand LCDs and the expert said to go for it! he said the differences between the expensive brands (Sony, etc) and the off brands (Westinghouse, Visio) are so minute that they are harldy worth mentioning. We are saving for one as we speak!
The LCD panel itself may not have many differences, but lower cost sets will use cheaper tuners, upscalers, etc. There is far more to these sets than just the LCD/plasma panel itself. These cheaper components present themselves in poorly rendered gradients, colors that are off and more. If you're worried about price, you can get them cheaper at Costco and Sam's, with generous warranty/return (respectively) policies. Sam's even has a discount area where they cycle through repaired/discontinued stock. |
