There was almost two lost today because someone turned their attention away for a few minutes.

Alert | Gaa... That bites. When I was in NorCal, I enrolled my son in swimming courses because there was too much water around. When I moved here, I enrolled him in swim classes because there is not that much water around. He will find it.

Alert | It truly takes only moments for something terrible to happen.
When I was 4 or so my grandma and I were in the backyard. She ran in the house to answer the phone. At that moment I was walking with our dog next to the pool and fell in. Luckily, my hand was stuck in the dog's collar that I had been holding on to and the dog managed to pull me out. My grandma found me wet, laying next to the pool crying. Alert | | I just dont understand when there are so many drownings why parents dont take their children for swim lessons. It truly could save their lives. Also learn CPR. | | I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Alert | A couple of weeks ago I was watching a little boy swimming in the pool. He was close enough that his legs were touching mine. He was bouncing around, mostly underwater, for I guess less than a minute. His mother looks over, drops down and pulls him out.
He was drowning right in front of me and I didn't even know it. | | I loathe people who keep dogs. They are cowards who haven’t got the guts to bite people themselves. ~Sir Geoffrey Streatfield

Alert | | It really was. It slammed home a truth to me......drowning is silent. I didn't even know the boy couldn't swim. I just thought he was playing. His mom, thankfully, was aware and alert and it took a very short time for her to react but I was shaken for hours afterwards. | | I loathe people who keep dogs. Alert | | I believe it. Once in my daughters swim class one of the children in another class fell off of the steps they were sitting on. I didnt notice but my daughters swim teacher did. The only thing I saw was him racing off and grabbing the child out of the water. You can be right there and not even see it. | | I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Alert | | You know what's so dangerous to me? Parties. Everyone thinks that someone else is watching all the kids swimming around. I never take my eyes off my kids but I end up lifeguarding all the kids (which I'm grateful to be able to, mind you) because I know that it can happen even in a pool filled with adults if no-one is making a conscious decision to watch them. | | I loathe people who keep dogs. That is why we have a strict no kid policy when we have adult pool parties.

Alert | | Every kid should have swim lessons. There are these swim belts that I highly recommend instead of those wing things and life preserver bulky crap. As the child gets heavier, you remove another foam float from the belt. However, this belt allows the child to go under, but come right back up. This way he/she can learn and not be afraid to go under. My son used one from 2 years on. He was jumping off of diving boards at age 2 and so was my nephew. I've never been uncomfortable with my son around water. He's been swimming since birth. | | "Happiness is a journey...not a destination."

Alert | Last year my daughter had one of those swimsuits with the floatable stuff in it that makes them look like a giant cube that zips up the front. Made me feel safe, like she could drown, and I was playing a few feet away with my 6 year old with her (my youngest) jumping off the step kicking back, definitely not on my most alert and I casually glanced back and noticed the dang zipper unzipped itself making her torso fall forward head in water holding her arms back so she couldn't even splash.
I changed to this suit verses the floaties because the same girl (my youngest) had them on earlier in the season and practically the same scenerio (I swear balancing motherhood and attention can be so hard at times) she was floating around us having fun and I looked back just as one of the floaties slipped off one of her arms leaving her crooked in the water.
2 scares in one summer to one family....moral, don't think anything is drown resistant, watch constantly, swim lessons, swim lessons, swim lessons, do I need to say it again, swim lessons. | | "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~ Dr. Suess
