Here we go... day four. The longer it takes to get a decent explanation out of either the Fire Department or city management, the more speculation and rumor will persist.

Each day that goes by widens the "credibility gap". C'mon. Any decision is better than indecision.

DD,

Take it on good information, the Fire Chief has been gagged. He is not allowed to discuss this.

85239 is right on the money. My question is, why is the city trying to protect these guys? What do they have to hide?

Firing a bunch of firefighters would just be a simple solution to a complex problem. Take it easy, angry mob.

I don't think firing anyone should even be a topic of consideration until all the facts are in and have been reviewed. There needs to be action, but it needs to be appropriate to what actually happened as determined by a thourough investigation of the facts.

One thing city management seems to be really adept at is circling the wagons.

If that's all you want...then who really cares.

People got drunk
They fought

If that is what you are looking for that is really the end of story. The Cops tazered the other guy cuz of the brotherhood with FFers.

I'm more interested in learning that the city is interested in increasing the safety of it's citizens. And will re-evalute tennants and the liquor laws.

and that came from NEZ?????

LOL

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

This seems to contradict your first statement. I hope the silence is because they are conducting a thourough HR investigation. We'll need to wait and see.

Yeah, Cabanna, I hope so too. I would think that they would acknowledge that there was an incident in which city personnel were involved, commit to a thourough but timely investigation, and promise to issue a public statement at an appropriate time.

My prognostication is that within 5 days a press release will be released as follows:

Maricopa, AZ, USA: The City Council for the City of Maricopa announces today that two new contracts have been awarded. An airport consultant has been retained for $200,000 to procure a squadron of crop dusters to shroud the city with smoke. An economic development consultant has been awarded a new contract for an additional $150,000 to lure in a mirror company to strategically place mirrors all over town.

Also in the news

According to an unnamed city source, a junior management assistant has been selected to lead a multi-million dollar project that will form a citizen’s committee. This committee primary mission will be to determine the color, pattern and style of the rug the city will use. This committee will also be charged with reviewing applications for the naming rights to the Maricopa City Broom. Inside sources put companies associated with current city councilmen as the front-runners for those rights.

Disclaimer: The preceding announcement is satirical in content.

  • Nobody has contacted Ramsey or any of the witnesses at Ramseys that night.

  • The city is using the police report as a basis for their inaction, even though the reporting officer was not a witness to the incident and arrived after the fact.

  • The Fire Chief, the top aministrative official in that department has been told directly that he is not allowed to hold his own internal investigation and has been silenced.

  • The HR Director is taking her lead from the City Attorney, both of whom made a critical error by not having personnel policies in place to manage this type of incident.

  • The Interim City Manager ordered the Fire Chief to place the four people put on Administrative leave back on the job, incapacitating his leadership and ability to manage.

  • A thread on 85239.com has reached over 7000 views since being published, showing the public outcry on this event.

  • Two local media outlets ran the story as a "Breaking News" item.

  • None of this is speculation. Regardless of the methods they may or may not be using for their internal investigation, our City is responsible to the citizens and the paramount issue here is that they have failed to even acknowledge the existence of a problem that needs an investigation to happen.

I don't expect a report on what action they are taking, but I very much expect them to tell us that they either are doing something, or have chosen not to do anything.

How ironic that the Branding story comes out today and the sound bites in the article are about how "global" we should become and how the residents are "partners" in this venture. Well, I have news for the city, this isn't a partnership. You work for us. We are your bosses. The services our city needs to brand are the ones that affect the daily lives of people who live here. Local government shouldn't be a marketing machine for an external customer, but a service provider for their internal customer, which are the citizens of this city.

Wow. That sounds like a script from a Three Stooges episode. The only thing missing from this to make it a classic Maricopa story is the hiring of a consultant to tell them what the hell they should do.

85239, are you sure the City Attorney is giving the direction, or has he got his brother filling in for him?

Prognosticator: very, very funny. thank you. i think we all needed that.

85239: your information is beyond disturbing at this point.

SO, what do we as citizens do now? i think if ever there was a time for a grass roots campaign in maricopa, the time is now. i have some extra time to donate to this cause, and i would be willing to wager there's a lot of others with the time and the motivation to get this ball rolling. what i don't have is the knowledge or experience to know where we go from here. but let's not just sit around with our proverbial thumbs up our proverbial a$$es, let's do something!

fair warning, i will be cross posting this to all threads related to this incident. i hope this is not an issue for any readers or for the management, i think it is important that we get as many people as possible aware and involved in a grass roots effort as early as possible.

That's weird.... there are worse things happening in other cities Especially at bars.

All in all Maricopa is a nice place to live. Is it perfect? Nope. It will never be. There are no perfect people and people are what run a city. There will alweays be some issue.
In time it will get better. It has come a long way in the past few years.

This incident is unfortunate for all involved and the community. I hope that those men are held accountable for thie actions. They are suppose to carry themselves well both on & off duty since they represent us. All people make mistakes no arguing that but they are adults and need to take responsibility for their actions too.

Curiosity: Why didn't the officer that was on the scene file the report?
