Alert | "Taxation without representation is a tyranny" (Ben Franklin)
You do have representation. If you don't like how your money was spent this 4th, please add your representation. Get involved. Help next year meet your expectations. DO SOMETHING! Everyone has the right to complain, but that means they also have the responsabilty to make a difference. Freedom is not free.
It is far easier to complain about the efforts of others than to help change things. That's kind of like being upset there is nothing on TV. LOL (You still buy the advertiser's products)
I appreciate your opinion and don't think you are wrong on several counts. BUT now that YOU have set the expectations it is up to YOU to help meet them.
You can bitch all you want, but if YOU do nothing, then next year, the powers that be will again make assumptions for YOU and again, you will be upset at the outcome.
With that being said, what are YOU going to do about next year's display? How are YOU going to help and add ideas? What will YOU do?
My guess would be... Nothing.... Just complain again next year. That is just so darn helpful.
'nuff said. PS, If you need phone numbers or email addresses for ANY of our officials, please PM me. I will be happy to do that legwork for you. | | Let X=X

One more armchair critic.
Have you tried? I have personnaly had promises made and kept by some of the elected officials.I have also seen some officials give time and money to charities that they had no personal or finacial gain from. What do you base this statement on? | | Let X=X

Alert | | Other cities cancelled their fireworks display and here we have people complaining. Some people are just so bitter nothing seems to please them. Maricopa could have saved the fireworks for next year and saved money on this year's celebration but instead this is what the people running the city get, complaints complaints.

Alert | | Our family had a nice time at the carnvial. We loved the wind that kicked up and the lightning displays in the distance. Next year, we would like to see a shorter movie and have the display start on time. Or, no movie at all, and have a band/DJ and continue with the festival atmosphere, games and food, and then start the fireworks display at 9:30 as scheduled. (it was kinda late for our kids), but otherwise, no issues! I personally, was appreciative that they kept us informed of the weather conditions as I did not think a mortar in my lap or on top of my house would have been a nice way to end the evening. I think that the City will continue to improve and get better and that is what we will support.

Drummer that is just plain wrong. You need to apologize.
Serioulsy my mother was burned 45% with 2nd and 3rd degree burns. It may have not been at a fireworks display. However, I would not wish that upon anybody.
You really need to examine yourself if you wish that kind of harm on people, no matter thier political affiliation. I'm not going to apologize for a JOKE. Remember, I'm not republican, so I'm not that evil. | | "Everything for everyone and nothing for ourselves"

I realize some people make excuses for everything while others call it as it is. I call it as it is. The fireworks display was a major disappointment. By the way, I wouldn't call a town of estimated 33,923 residents "small". Maricopa is the same population as a typical "Chicago Suburb" <---- Drummer72, anyone can see a Chicago fireworks display on WGN, but that's a city of millions including thousands of businesses contributing to the city taxes so of course they would be better than Maricopa and it has nothing to do with their STATE Senator, moron---- I'm glad Maricopa has these events and again I emplore our city to put together more in the future.
To be clear for the slow or thick-headed, Corman, I am not apologizing or backing off from my statements. I started this discussion because of the lack-luster fireworks display and that is how I end it. Well, let's hope channel 3 can broadcast Maricopa's fireworks next year, so you can sit in your diaper and drink wine coolers. | | "Everything for everyone and nothing for ourselves"

Alert | The fireworks were lame, I don't care what any of you over the top positive people say, they didnt start on time and they dragged on and on and on, with pauses in between each one that were incredibly too long. When you have young children that are anticipating the fireworks it is not plesant when they don't start on time. And for all you ignorants out there it was not a free show, have you ever heard of taxes, you paid for that show. I hope that next year it is better, since I am paying for it after all.

Alert | mallardisme - nice photos. It was not a perfect show, but I certainly thought it was a good show. We thought there were three finale's so I guess my family was happy with it. I personally don't like crowds much anymore so this seemed like a perfect little event. I agree with a few comments that people said about saving gas, showing some appreciation for the event. This is a small town and there isn't large budgets for the events like Tempe. Please be respectful of those who probably put in a lot of time and effort to put on this FREE event. As for the delay, sometimes you can't help that. From where we were watching, it got quite winding and we had thought it was cancelled as it was so delayed. With a little bit of patience, we finally saw some fireworks.
Thank you to everyone helped organize this.

Alert | | I know I am confused why everyone is all it was FREE it is called tax dollars so no not free at all. I didn't expect much till I read how the city bragged how great they would be so much better than last year and better than most the ones in PHX. I didn't care for my self but my daughter fell out before they even started and was upset she missed them then my son was impatient the entire time because of all the pauses and then I kept telling him about the grand finale and we stood there forever waiting for that! I saw them last year and they were much better and had an awesome finale.

Alert | Just do what I do and go buy your own fireworks and light them off. Problem solved.
1) You bought them, if you feel they are crappy or do not meet up to your explosive standards remember you picked them.
2) You can light them at any time. With the "kids" around and awake or let the adults have fun while they are in bed.
4) You weather experts can determine if it’s safe. And if you hit something that you shouldn't have you will really be in for a light show.
Or just Tivo the New York fireworks show (since they are 3 hours ahead) and stay home to plop in front of the TV. That way you can keep a schedule and save time by skipping the commercials. Get the youngsters in bed by 8:45. | | "Don't mistake lack of talent for genius"
