Alert | Need help calming down!! My family is in a total financial crisis. I am not working, but my husband is than God. But even with his salary we still have to file bankruptcy. I hate to admit that, but it is the sad truth. We are trying to make sure that we can still keep our home, and are current on all of our payments. We are overdrawen on one bank account and the other we have about 100 bucks to our name. I am in a constant state of worry every day, stressing out all of the time. I do have an interview next Tuesday, and hopefully I will get the job. Although if I do get it, according to our lawyer I can only make nin dollars an hour and increase childcare expenses to 500 a month. It would really help to know if there are anyone else out there that is struggling as much as we are at the moment. Right now I feel totaly isolated and a loser. Sorry to go off like this, but if I talk to my husband about this he freaks out worse than I do.

Alert | Right now go out and buy either Total Money Makeover or Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey. Stay up and read it all tonight. You will feel better in the morning and hopefully have a plan. Good luck.

Alert | | That would be good advice Bionicbunny, if we had the extra money to buy those books. Maybe the library has them?

Alert | | I agree with RT that if you are freaking out you are less likely to make sensible decisions.

They very possibly do! If not maybe there is someone who reads this and has a copy that would be willing to loan it to you? I gave mine away already but it will truly change your life!

Alert | So sorry to hear this Regan. Nothing stresses me out more than financial worries so I certainly know how you feel. Do you have any family that are in a position to help you? I know if you contact your creditors and are honest with them they are usually willing to work with you. Maybe you could get a months reprieve on your car payment or credit cards. It wouldn't hurt to ask and it might help get your head above water.
A lot of people are in the same boat you and your family are right now. Going to work seems like the logical solution but when you factor in the high gas prices, cost of daycare, clothes, lunch money, etc... you end up working for pitance. If you could find something local it would certainly make sense. You might try Tutor Time. I don't know what their policy is about bringing your own children to work with you but it's worth looking into. I did that when my children were young so I didn't have to pay for daycare and I could still be with them.
Good luck and try not to stress out.

Alert | Wow RichTig, you are right. Usually I disagree with a lot that you have to say, but I suspect that deep down you are a teddy bear.

Alert | | The bankruptcy is your hope. Learn from it, remember how bad it iseems, it will help to keep you out of financial trouble in the future. That works for me anyway.

Alert | | Contact your creditors. They will likely work with you. They want to keep your account active. | | Poster formerly known as Sassafrass.

Alert | Bankruptcy is not what it was, the laws have changed and you should look at any and all alternatives other than BK. Unfortunately you must of signed up for more than you could pay for. The child care and times are a goal in itself, but look for evening work while your husband is at home and watching the kids. I had to lay-off two guys last week it was not fun doing so. Business is really starting to take it hard now, fuel is just stupid considering all elements of our society and ways rely on it.

Alert | Have you thought about working from home? I know most things are scams you see on the net, but some legit companies pay people to do phone work from home. Incoming customer service calls etc. I have been thinking of doing that on the weekends and evenings to earn some extra money. BK is not a bad option in some situations, but you do have to go through a means test and make sure you have tried credit counseling first. This is required now. Good luck and all the best.

Alert | | We have gone through the credit counseling, and we qualify for chapter 7 from the means test. It is now a waiting game, which really sucks!!! Our lawyer is going to file on September 1. I do have a second interview for Tutor Time this Tuesday. The lawyer stated that I can start working IF I only make about nine dollars an hour, and if we have childcare expenses of five hundred a month, also I can only start working in August.
