Alert | Is it just me or does it seem that alot of people in town feel that they are exempt from the rules?? Fire lane parking is running wild in the town. As the title states, the apitamy of laziness and disrepect. You are too good to park in a space made for parking? You can't use one and walk into the store? No wonder america is so damn fat!!!! I don't wanna hear....(in a whining tone) it's hot!!! I have an easy fix for that.......move to a colder place. "I have too many water jugs to fill" another easy answer.....use a cart!! I am also gonna go out on a limb here and say that these people that do that, are also the same people that will complain if someone else does it, and it takes police and fire longer to get to them cause they had to park farther. Now, I am sure I have pissed someone off who doesn't agree with any of this, but I don't care. The law is the law and it is posted below..... Fire Lane Parking Violations
Parking in designated fire lanes in the City of Maricopa is strictly prohibited. Fire lanes and hydrants are considered part of the fire protection system. They are designed to allow unobstructed fire apparatus access at all times in the event of a fire or a medical emergency.
Whenever a fire lane is blocked, the safety of that building and its occupants are in jeopardy. Fire lane curbs are marked red in order to define their limits. If you are found parked in front of a red curb, or a clearly signed fire lane your car may be ticketed, towed, or both. If your car is in a lane required for use by emergency personnel, fines and punishments increase significantly. Now I do need to make one thing clear. I have no problem with those that drop off a spouse, or child who is working, or LEGALLLY handicapped at the door and pull away and find parking. I am guilty of that as well, wife goes in to start shopping while I find parking in a parking space marked with white lines away from a building marked with red fire lanes.

Alert | OMG...I totally agree with you. I see this at Fry's all the time. People park on the fire lane and wait for someone to go shopping or they run in to get their gourmet coffee. I am so glad someone finally brought this up. I am 9 months pregnant and I park in the first spot I see (even if it is at the back of the parking lot) and walk my pregnant butt. I hate to say it but there are many people who would benefit from that back of the parking lot walk. Also, just because you drive expensive cars or think you are above everyone else, you aren't. One of these days, someone in your family is going to need our hardworking firefighters, police officers, ambulances and they will have no where to park because your fat, lazy *** is in the way. Alert | It angers me to see people parking in the fire lane. Do they ever get ticketed?
I also see able-bodied people parking in handicapped spots, then proceeding to almost jog into the store. But that's another story. If you are able bodied and driving a car with handicapped plates, but the handicapped person is not a passenger, you have no right to be parking in a handicapped spot. I see this abuse constantly around Maricopa. Again, do these people receive tickets? | | Proud conservatives happily living on our acreage in the beautiful mountains of Hidden Valley with no HOA.

Alert | Epitome
For the record, I am not surprised by the dysfunction in this town. I have met too many freaky folks to continue to have faith in people. DH and I are convinced that Maricopa is a haven for the Witness Protection Program.
As for the disabled parking, someone stole my placard from inside my car. We had to use the disabled spot the next day because that doesn't mean that everything is fine with my legs now! Anyway, some nosey jerk wrote me a scathing note and put it on my windshield. My kids grabbed it first and read it. It was full of threats and obscenities.

Alert | you will hate this answer.
If you see this, call it in! I have complained about police cars using handicapped parking while they go to lunch (Not here)
You can write all you want, but if you do nothing about it, then you become part of the problem.
Take license numbers. Call the MPD. I do. It does help. Those are very expesive tickets. That money does come back to Maricopa. Stupidity tickes do work.
LOL! Regarding firelane parking, I still remeber a structure fire I went to where someone parked in front of a fire hydrant. LAFD broke their windows out and laid a 3 1/2 line through their car and made sure a dripping coupling was over their drivers seat. The car was a total loss and they had nothing to say about it.
These violations are one of me very pet peeves. | | Let X=X

I agreed with your post 100%!! But then I read the last paragraph...lol!!!!! You are KIDDING right!!!!! As far as I am concerned if you come to a stop next to the red curb it had better be to allow a pedestrian to cross PERIOD!!!!

Alert | So true!!! I have to laugh though. One time when we lived in an apartment in phoenix, I was coming home late and had to stop for the mail. There was no open parking available so I just pulled over in the fire land and ran over to get the mail...Two seconds later about 4 fire trucks came tearing into the complex and I had to run back to the car and was just surrounded by fire trucks trying to get into the complex.....Wow that was the first and last time I will ever stop in a fire lane for anything..... I know, I know I shouldn't have done it, but hey at least I ALWAYS return my shopping cart either to the store or the cart return areas, no matter how far away they are

Alert | I have actually siad something to people who do this and every single time I get excuses. I had a woman tell me that since there was not police or fire vehicle parked there, it was ok for her to park, since she would just be there for a minute. I have had people tell me that they are not parking, since they will be back in just a minute. I have actually called a local business owner, and told them I was not going to use their business anymore, since they had an employee, in a marked vehicle park in a no parking fire zone, and I saw them do it more than once.
Some people just do not care that they may jeopardize a life, as there is plenty of other space to park (someone told me that once), so what is the big deal? It is a big deal when your loved one dies because it takes the fire dept., and extra minute to get to you. I also call PD, but they can only ticket if the vehicle is still there.

Alert | In my former home town, the town hired a retired cop, gave him the power to write tickets for the misuse of fire lanes and handicap parking. he spent two hours a day cruising from one parking lot to another. Violators got a $500 fine and community service.

| In connection with the Maricopa Police Department's new Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS), the MPD is announcing two new volunteer opportunities. The department is looking for community members that would be interested in volunteering to assist with a new Graffiti Abatement Task Force and/or Volunteer Citizens on Patrol. |
The Graffiti Abatement Task Force will be a joint effort between the city's Public Works, Code Compliance and the Police Department to paint over and eradicate graffiti throughout the city in a more timely manner.

The Citizens on Patrol will consist of trained volunteers in modified MPD vehicles. In an effort to facilitate a safer atmosphere, these volunteers will patrol and maintain a presence around Maricopa public schools during the hours that students are coming and going from school. Volunteers who observe unsafe or suspicious activity will be able to call immediately for a uniformed officer to respond and assist.
All department volunteers and the vehicles they operate will be readily distinguished as citizen volunteers and not police officers. They will have no police authority. However, they will have immediate access to the police radio equipment to contact uniformed officers in the area if the need for police actions is required.
Combined efforts throughout the city will be required if we hope to maintain the beauty and safety of our community. If you are interested in being a part of this effort, please contact Officer Stephen Judd of the Maricopa Police Department for further information at (520) 251-6373 or sjudd@cityofmaricopa.net. |

Alert | No this is the position we need down here: DISABLED PARKING ENFORCEMENT VOLUNTEER Mesa PD offers this volunteer position. Here are the details: 8 hours per month ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Position Description: The volunteer will patrol parking lots throughout the City of Mesa (with the exception of Mesa Community College) for vehicles parked in spaces reserved for the disabled, without displaying the proper authorization (license plate or placard), as specified in Mesa City Code 10-3-21-k.1 and ARS 28-884. the volunteer will, at their discretion, issue either a citation or a warning notice to violators. The volunteer will communicate with business and property owners regarding establishing the correct number of properly posted parking spaces for the physically challenged. The volunteer will aid in educating the community about special parking needs for the disabled, which may include public appearances before designated groups. Qualifications: The volunteer must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with the public, including under stressful circumstances in which person may be upset or agitated. The volunteer must successfully complete the prescribed course of training. The volunteer must be available for court duty as required by the Mesa City Court. The volunteer must attend scheduled meetings, usually bimonthly. The volunteer must provide their own vehicular transportation; if driving a vehicle, the volunteer must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License. The volunteer must wear the uniform attire specified by the Mesa Police Department. The volunteer must complete and remit an activity log monthly to the program manager. The volunteer must be at least 21 years of age. Special Requirement: Because of the confidential and sensitive nature of information handled, successful completion of a background investigation and polygraph exam is required. Application and Selection Process: Please complete the one page volunteer Application and Prepolygraph Questionnaire, available at the Personnel front desk. Applications will be reviewed and applicants may be selected for an interview. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is what I am talking about. Of course it only involves disabled parking and only involves a Mesa City Code but I don't see why Maricopa can't put a position together to reflect Maricopa City Code and add the Fire Lane Enforcement (unless that would be considered something the Fire Department would handle)! | | Proud Momma of 2 beautiful boys!!!
