Well you need to do one thing, work harder. My income dropped nearly a hundred thousand a year, so all I can do is press harder and work smarter to offset my money cash flow. All people need to step up and take care of all concerns. I am not in default and current on all my credit cards.

i don't think anyone here said they were having trouble making ends meet because they weren't working hard or harder than before.

kudos to you for not being in default, i too am current because of the belt tightening we've done.  I am sorry that you have credit cards.  it must be difficult working so hard to make other's rich.  especially after such a drop in your income.

This thread needs to be moved into the politics forum...but I could not just let you get away with such a blatantly ignorant statement. Why is President Bush the worst President ever? Does President Bush have control over the economy? If he does, then why would he allow the price of fuel increase so dramatically? wouldn't it be better for the Republicans if the price was kept low?

The simple fact is the President has very little influence over the economy, if you want to point a finger and lay blame then look to Capital Hill.  These are the people that voted not to allow drilling for more oil in Alaska and just recently off the coast of Florida. These are also the people that are unwilling to pass legislation to reign in the EPA so refineries can be built in less than 20 years.

Instead of parroting the legacy media and blaming Bush for our present situation, how about taking the time to look into the issues and problems and see what the real deal is.

according to many the price of oil is driven by investors in hedge funds that can by on only 5% margin.

This is akin to the investment in housing by speculators that drove prices up and now are sinking; the invest. in dotcom stocks...same scenario..

It is predicted that same will happen to oil and soon all the eco cars will be idle while the truck/ suv  freaks get out on the road again.

after driving on a whole tank of gas under 60, I experienced 34.5 MPG; not bad considering A/C on most of the time and automatic. (Hyundai Accent 4 banger) combo city and mostly hwy driving.

I disagree. If we're shooting for ignorance here, I will go along with your example and say that Carter was one of the worst presidents, as interest rates were at an all time high, with high unemployment rates and an eventual recession. You just conveniently forgot that, though, because the media doesn't say it's cool to slam Carter. It's only hip to hate Bush. Duh! Carry on with your blissful ignorance, though.

So the Democratically controlled Congress doesn't deserve any blame, after their statement that they have a "commonsense plan" to lower prices, and yet prices have gone up 91% since they took control of Congress?

no president is immune to criticism, though anyone can see dubya has had by far the most gaffs/blunders,bad decision making etc etc of any president to date. like i said he is the worst by far imo, and yes its hip to hate on bush but he has made himself&his administration a HUGE target so thats on him.

the democratic controlled congress hasnt always been there during his 2 terms, nice try though jason. i am not saying rep's or dems are perfect but the proof is in the pudding with this president&to some extent, congress as well. we need real change and so Obama clearly presents the best chance of that in my humble opinion. just my 2 cents

AZCopa,

OK, so here's my thoughts on keeping the AC switched off during the day.

Consider your home like a "leaky" box. Leaky because if you're not cooling it all the time, the temperature starts to rise inside, because the heat leaks in.

From basic thermodynamics, heat transfer occurs from a hotter region/object (outside) to a colder region/object (inside of the home). This heat transfer depends on the difference in temperature and the conductivity of the material that separates the two regions of different temperatures. (Heat transfer through radiation is proportional to fourth power of the temperature difference, and transfer through conduction is proportional to the temperature difference). Obviously, if your home is colder (and correspondingly the outside is hotter), more heat would come into your home, and vice versa.

Obviously, if you keep your AC on during the day, say, at 85, a temperature difference of say 25 degrees (when outside is 110) would cause the AC to be required to remove a lot of heat from the home, at regular intervals.

If on the other hand, if you switch the AC off, the temperature inside would rise and correspondingly the heat transfer would reduce.

In ALL cases, whether you switch off AC for an hour or 10, you can be sure that less heat would be required to be removed from the home compared to if you had left the AC on all the time.

As for the question about wear and tear when the AC continuously runs for a longer duration in one shot in the evening, remember that
- The AC runs more if you leave it on during the day (because as I mentioned earlier, it removes more heat during the day, maintaining a large temperature difference), and
- Since it constantly switches on and off during the day (but runs for like an hour continuously in the evening when you switch it on)
it would most likely cause more wear and tear on the AC if you kept it on during the day. Think of it this way, if you had a car, and drive it for a longer distance, stopped and switched it on and off randomly often, compared to switching it on, and driving it continuously, what would cause more wear and tear?

I didn't ever imply they were, nice try though. What they did do though is promise lowered prices through a "commonsense plan" and what happened? Prices went up 91%! Putting in another Democrat will help how? He isn't part of their "commonsense plan".

I HATE being on a BUDGET!!!!! I am not used to buying things that I want or doing things that I want to do. I have been so spoiled over the years because I have always worked, and my paychecks were always the "FUN" money. Then we moved out here, and I just recently stopped working and we are broke. It really sucks!

Don't go out to eat as much, and cancel your cable. Basic cable is fine, and cooking at home is healthier........
