Alert | Posted By AZ Dreaming on 06/09/2008 10:27 AM Trying to keep up with the Jones when it comes to all this new technology that comes out each year has become too much. Within a year things become obsolete so you have to buy a new version. That's how they keep making their money. Guess I'll just have to become an old fogie (sp?). I refuse to keep increasing our debt to have these new gadgets.
I learned long ago not to try to keep up with the Joneses! They are broke!

Alert | Few Tips here: 1. Put money in interest fetching accounts, the money from interest can help pay many bills 2. Use Cash back cards 3. Switch OFF the A/C when leaving home, leaving it on even at 85 , the whole day can cost u an additional 100 dollars more a month (my and all my friends experience) 4. Park ur car inside the garage, parking it outside, taks more fuel to cool the car 5. Do not charge ur cell phone in ur car, battery consumption costs fuel 6. Watch put for the weekly sales in Fry's and Basha's, plan ur purchases accordingly. E.g when pizzas are on sale buy 10, since they have good shelf life. Other examples Ice cream, canned vegatbles, dry pasta, buy in bulk when on sale 7. Try using ur home phone, instead of cell phone, cell phones can be expensive, keep that to a bare minimum. Look for good home phone planes, try VOIP companies 8. Ladies, get ur self memberships of dept stores like BBB, LNT, JCPenny, Kohls, they send coupuns ever month, good values on those. And please shop when u need, not because u HAVE to use a coupon, tha will cost u more 9. Drive on cruise, drive between 62-70, saves 30% of fuel, switch off the car when at drive thru banks , depositing a check or withdrawals can take 3-4 mins , waste of gas, It takes less gas to start up a car, rather than having it running for 3-4 mins. Same for Drive thru eatries (Tacobell, Arby's etc) 10. when vacationing, carry food articles with u, instead of stopping at fast foods, sandwiches, fruits, bagels etc
I have many many more, let me know if anyone is interested.

I guess I question this one. With most days now approaching 100+ degree temps and soon the night time temps will still be quite warm, I have been told that turning your air off will heat up your home to much and the unit will have to work harder to cool your home down. I wonder if in the long run would cause excess wear and tear on the ac unit which if needing frequent repair could negate the savings on you electric bill.

Alert | | I certainly would be interested to know what to do with the air conditioners. Actually we have two units (one for each floor) and are never sure how they should be set up. I certainly gets warmer upstairs but should we keep them both set at the same temp? Would love to know how to save the extra $$$$

Watch out with this one though if you have prescription medication in the house. They usually require a controlled environment. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | Well you need to do one thing, work harder. My income dropped nearly a hundred thousand a year, so all I can do is press harder and work smarter to offset my money cash flow. All people need to step up and take care of all concerns. I am not in default and current on all my credit cards.

Alert | rikamujra you need too understand responsibility and agreements you make prior to the current financial status. I hope you are not one to figure it down to the last hundred per month. Gee I guess when the financial crunch hit, my rent payment or mortage payment is secondary too your families life style and expenses. Sorry you agreed so perform accordingly. ty

Don't do it riki !!! little scooter vs any size vehicle at 20mph can easily be fatal!
Also you actually run a greater risk on the surface roads.

I wonder if in the long run would cause excess wear and tear on the ac unit which if needing frequent repair could negate the savings on you electric bill. Last summer our a/c went out. It was out for a few days before it got fixed. Very soon after, the compresser on our fridge went out because of working overtime to keep the fridge cool. So that is something to consider when leaving your house at 85. | | Despite All My Rage I Am Still Just A Rat In A Cage

Alert | | We usually leave the ac on and set to 83 during the day when we are not home. When we get home we set them to 78-79. With the nights still being somewhat cooler, the ac does not run all the time. Some times it doesn't even hit 83 inside during the day, so the ac has not run at all. One thing we do is in the morning we open as many windows and doors that we can before we leave and it drops the temp inside a few degrees then close up everything and close all the blinds before we leave for the day.....We'll see, although hubby is starting to adjust to keeping the home a little warmer than he would normally like....around 79 or so....
