We have a million regular little black flies in our backyard.  They make my kiddies so crazy we can't even go outside.  We may have it worse here than most because our neighbors aren't very good about cleaning up their dog pooh.

Does anyone have an ideas about how to prevent all of these flies from coming into our yard (short of telling our neighbors to clean up their yard - they're kinda scary)?  Thanks

I have the same problem and thought buying a fly trap I saw at Ace would do the trick. Well talk about a nasty fly convention. The flies REALLY like the trap. They do trap flies and draw them to where the trap is........just don't put it on your patio. That bad boy needs to be FAR FAR away.

if you are talking about one of those fly motels... they work great but will attrack flies from NY lol.... best thing to do is hang them farthest place in your yard.... or do what we did hang it on the fence on the side of the yard.... the thing will fill up with thousands of flies

We call it Fly Season because it happens every year at this time. I have no suggestions other than to keep your doors closed. I'm looking to screen in my patio very soon.

We have an exterminator that comes out regularly and they put stuff on our grass...that seems to help, but I don't think there's anything you can do to really get rid of them. We have billions of them because we're close to one of the feed lots...yuck.

So this fly motel thing...you can get it at Ace? Does anyone see a decrease in the number of flies because of it?? Or do you just see a bunch of dead ones in it....

We got one of those fly traps at Chitwood, it stinks to high heaven but it works!

I've also noticed that if you water than they come along with every aunt, uncle and cousin that they have.

What are the names of the things that you use that work.  I haven't found anything yet that works.

I got a fly trap - in like 2 hours I had like 3000 flies. It was the trap you add water to it and they fly in the bag.. crazy. Doesn't help our neighbor has 2 dogs and never pics up the poop!

we got those fly trap things, the bags were full by the end of the day, and we still have flies everywhere! we also go this thing from Ace called the Zapper Racquet. it basically looks like a tennis racquet that is powered by 2 AA batteries, and it fries the suckers if you are fast enough to hit one. in the 3 days we have had it, my husband has probably only killed 20 or so, but a few of them "popped" so loud it was hysterical! basically i think it is what it is, and soon they will be gone...... hopefully!

When we moved to south Chandler 13 years ago and most of the dairy farms were still there, the first thing everyone asked us is if we had a problem with flies.  I said "not at all".

When we moved out here with the feedlots nearby, again we were asked do you have a problem with flies, again we said not at all.  But that was before THIS last month!!  It has been terrible.  As you have mentioned, they are attracted to water.  I have found 1 or 2 floating in my dog's water dish almost everyday, constantly having to refill it.  Maybe I'll put a few big containers of water in the backyard and see how many we catch each day.

Does anyone know why they are so bad this year when we've never had this problem before?

I'm a native to Arizona and I was never bitten by a fly until I was doing yardwork down here in Maricopa, not only did it hurt but my pride was bruised as well.

Eric, please make your signature smaller as it makes me hate cats; and you, especially you.

Hate is such a strong word. How about we just say that you dislike me? Will that work?
