Actually Pepperdog - I'm not with 85239.com. Technically, I _am_ with a competitive (of sorts) news agency that reports on all of Pinal County. I post on here and elsewhere for the same reasons as the rest of you - because I live here. But I broke the story first - before I shared it online

Many agencies had the same experience with the PD., Calls, e-mails, faxes, etc. No response.
That is the failure of the PD NOT the news sources.
Fritzy pushed it more and did the follow through. After she made contact and posted, it looks like to me, the PD released the information to other agencies.
No excuse. There is no way the PD could be that remiss in this.

It's funny. In LA My father got upset about similar issues so he gave them a tool. He created a company called Media Page. He sold subscriptions to all news services for a paging system. The agencies, such as Police, Fire, Coroner, could call an incident a 'code 20' This means 'Alert the press'. Once that was done a single phone call would alert every agency that a news worthy incident was in progress. They could further use this to tell the press where the incident command was and have then respond there for a briefing before venturing into the incident. This was particularly usefull with baracades and chemicle incidents. This was a very popular tool with the press and law enforcement... And FD because they do like the coverage.
Today, this could be so easily done with a group e-mail sent to editors and reporters with no cost involved.
This list would allow information to be given as they want to, allow the press a chance to look at the event and decide if they want to be a part of it and allow agencies to coordinate with the media before their phones start to ring.

Wow.... less than 36 hours and a whole lot less rumors. That sounds like a win win to me.

Let X=X

I'm now starting to believe that Maricopa is not the place for me to raise my child. I've tried to stay very positive during the housing slump, but if MPD, DPS...someone...can't get a handle on what is happening and stop it before it gets worse, I'm not sure what I'll do. I'd rather take a loss on my house and rent in a neighborhood where I feel my family is safe.

Have any of you considered that only a few years ago, Maricopa was a very small community and most crimes were drunk and disorderly or someone stealing a 12 pk of beer from Express Stop. This community has grown out of control over the last few years. We had no police department, no government, ect. With new people moving in, not all are good people. Same as any other community. But we aren't used to crime, so even though it seems like a lot is happening and it is getting a lot of press, many other cities that are more established have as much or more crime, but it is so commonplace that is doesn't make the headlines.

Just remember folks this is what you are paying this qualified community services for the last figure i heard was 15 million dollars. (9 million for fire and 6 million for your police department) Maybe we are not paying them enough......

Mallard - DPS has such a program. They email the media list EVERY ongoing announcement for the state and you sort through which ones are in your area to cover. On top of that, they have a paid subscription service that will forward a voice announcement to whatever phone number you designate - an on-call cellphone/pager of sorts.

PCSO emails a daily incident call list. You have to sort through the incidents to see what is newsworthy and what is the ho-hum normal stuff and then request further info from the PIO on duty.

But most of the time, some things never change... you keep the scanner on low in the background and listen to the info

Ya know, you all are sighting the "Position" of a Police station with a crime that is being committed, and wondering why they don't see it happening right under their noses.

How many parents "DIDN'T SEE" their kid run out in the street, and get hit by that car.   How many parents  "DIDN'T SEE that bucket of water in the back yard that their child fell into.   How many parents DIDN'T SEE their child fall into the green pool.

Get a grip people, and start taking responsibility for your own BLINDNESS!!!

See!  ya got Granny on another rampage!  Start taking responsibility Maricopians!!!!!!!

OK, I let CT's very first post drive my emotions.  I didn't realize that this thread was going to wander into the "pick and choose"  "reporting to the community" stuff.  I did not know this was going to be a "how much of the truth are we being told" thread.

But, if my comments to CT's original post have any merit, I would hope you would cut me some slack.

A Calmer Granny!
